OK, while shifting in my car i noticed a few things. #1. i think it should shift smoother, i have redline mt90 in it and it should shift a lot smoother, it feels kinda notchy. i dont know how to explain it. its not like a good "pop" into gear tho, more like two clicks. #2. it never happens going into 4th gear #3. it never happens when i'm shifting and my RPMs are above 4K #4. i heard they changed some of the shift linkage parts(i have a 00 6-spd GTS). #5. not that i ever want to, but i find it hard to shift into 1st gear while going over about 20mph. (don't worry i'm not letting the clutch out while its in first, it is just hard to get into first while going that fast...is that a safety feature?) #6. it seems like if i don't left off the gas pedal as quick while shifting, it doesn't do it either.
do you experience the same thing? is it just because in 00 the linkage parts were kinda screwy? please help me out! Thanks!

No, not a saftey feature, but the gear will still grind even if you don't let the clutch out.

1st gear from what I understand is that its a gear meant to get the car going from a dead stop. Or when you wanna down shift to first going 10mph you have to rev match it.

^ oh.. i never rev match first. And when im going in reverse i sometimes let the car move and then just drive in 1st. oh well.. rev match is gonna be like .5k RPM right? Anyway, MXSUPERFLY25, i know exactly what you're talking about. Every single one of them my car does. Cept the last one about the gas pedal, i dont' really konw what that means. Basically it's because of the damn rubber bushings. I drove a celica with a short shifter and it comes with aluminum bushings and it "CLICKS" into gear like it should. It's harder to shift (uses more force and muscle) but it doesn't feel mushy and "Scratchy". It just pops right into gear. For the stock shifter, i noticed that 4th gear is perfect in a way. IT doesn't do that double click thing you talk about, it just pops in. I find that usually 3rd gear and 5th gear is when it gets very scratchy and doesn't feel like a clean shift. Also, if you're going at faster RPMs, i noticed that you have to shift faster... like its about to pop out into the next gear. Cause i was going about 6K RPM and i shifted slow on purpose, and it felt like it wanted to go into the next gear. Well what im saying is that the feeling is normal and a shoft shifter will change it. oh yeah, if it's hotter outside, or you turn the heat on (i don't know why) it gets smooth.

I would doubt it, because he didnt say anything about gear grinding.

hey superstud, thank you! i think with my xmas money i may order a short throw shifter with different bushings, thats what i was thinking of, the bushings. thanks a lot you really helped me out! andlucky317, the gears aren't grinding at all, it's just that the throw feels "scratchy" or "notchy" and it really bothers me. and rookieGTS, don't worry i don't downshift into 1st. but if i shift into 2nd gear, clutch (because there is a stop sign up ahead)and go to shift into first so after i stop i can go, it doesn't want to go into 1st unless i push hard, or drop my MPH. superstud knew what i was talkin' about. thanks for the posts!

bro, as for the shifting to first feels like 2 pops, thats wut i feel like too sometime. it shifts in smoother if you are completely stopped most of the time if you have redline mt90. the tranny basically doesnt let you shift back to first if you are over 20mph. and if ur close to 20 or a little lower, it is hard to shift to first and it feels like 2 pops before it goes in. well, its known that the celica tranny is not that driver friendly, so its kinda normal. you havent fucked anything up if you dont hear any grindings on gears.
