Alright, like 3 weeks ago my friend got in an accident. It happened right infront of me. I left the scene becuase I knew if I stayed they would of tried to say that we were street racing, but we wernt. So I call my friend and he tells me some old man got my lisnce plate # and now the cops have it. The cop said if he wanted to I could get a tickett for "leaving the scene of an accidnet" or something. But that was 3 weeks ago and the cop said he prolly wouldnt do it, only if he wanted to.
My friend got blamed for the accident and has to goto court Jan. 6th. He wants me to go to court and be a witness. But I dont wanna go becuase they might try to pull me back in it and give me a tickett for leaving the scene. So what do you think I should do??

i think you should go... your making yourself sound more suspicious for not attending anything because you left the scene, and now dont wanna be a witness.. i think.. i could be wrong though..

But they could still give me a tickett, right? Im not worried about the street racing thing. My friend got the tickett for wreckless driving not racing. Even though the old man tried to say we were.

dude simple as this. you goto court, and just tell them the truth. ur his friend, you were behind his car, and the only reason you didnt want to stop is because you didnt want the cops to guess that you guys were street racing. the witness, hopefully, doesnt make up any bs and tell the judge the truth that you guys werent racing. they do not have the right to give you any sort of ticket. so if theres an accident on the freeway that you just passed by, ur a witness and can get ticketed if you dont stop?

Exactly. They CAN'T ticket you now. You just happened to be there, but didn't think you could help any. You weren't involved, so you left. Now, your friend asks you to go to court for him. Now you see that you could've helped. You had no way of knowing that before... Got it?

You may get the ticket, but hey you were in the wrong place at the wrong time, you got to have your friend's back no matter what.

So you can get a ticket for just being at an accident scene? If my friend is at court for him, are they alowed to start punishing me at the same time? Will the cop who wrote the tickett be at court?
What I might do is let my friend go who was in the car w/me. He saw everything I saw and he wont get in trouble.

In my opinion there is no way you can get a ticket. If you were in no way related to the cause of the accident...you can't get hit with anything. At least if you can...then i have no confidence in our legal system anymore.
I would go to court if that will help your friend out. And if they ask why you didn't stay at the scene of the crime just say that you saw that everything was alright and nobody needed help, and you thought they/their insurance companies could handle everything from there. If you come back to court it would seem obvious that you don't have anything to hide. So i would just go. Maybe they can pull some lame ass like $50 ticket out of their ass but i doubt it.

If he wasnt street racing and you werent doing anything worng WHY did you leave the scene of an accident leaving the scene of an accident is usually not a ticket but a Fine and usually jail time if found guilty. (depending on the severity of the accident) did ur friend HURT anyone? or was it a minor accident? I mean did you even check to see if everything was OK or did you just "jet off", so YOU wouldnt get introuble? Was he "fucking around" or was it really an accident? Note for future reference: NEVER LEAVE THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT cause someone ALWAYS sees and It makes you look more guilty than you already are or it symbolizs your "hiding" something.

dude simple as this. you goto court, and just tell them the truth. Imagine That ... THE TRUTH but I agree. If you didnt do anything worng then you shouldnt have anything to worry about. The TRUTH can be a powerful thing. If you they wanna bag you for leaving the scene of an accident explain tot hem that you were SCARED and paniced. Just be honest. You never know..either way of you do get charged with leaving the scene of an accident... You do DESERVE it cause that IS what you did

I think you should go. As a friend and as support. Also bring along YOUR passenger. If the old man was saying that it wasn't due to street racing, I really don't understand why you'd get a ticket. If worst comes to worst, just say that you had to get your passenger somewhere on time.

It was a minor accident. My friends integra is totalted thought. It got a bent frame. And yes I stayed there for a few seconds. Everyone looks healthy. I want my passenger to go because he not at risk for anything.
As of now I have no tickett, so they can give me one if they wanted to? Even though, Im not the one on trial?
When school starts back Im going to talk to our cop there and see what he says. But I did not realize its a crime for just being at a scene of an accidnet. THere was at least 3 other cars around and I dont belive they stoped. The only reason the cop cares is beauce that one guy just gave them my lisnce plate.

Other Violations -- 6 Points Speeding 20 mph or more above the posted speed limit (5 years) Injuring person while racing - felony (11 years) Failure to stop at the scene of a crash - injury (11 years) Failure to stop at the scene of a crash - death (11 years) Failure to stop at the scene of a crash - property damage of $1000 or more (11 years)
man wtf. i could get 6 points for not stopping even though I didnt hit anyone. But i think they mean if you hit the person and dont stop??

^^^those are if you caused the accident. listen. it is unlawful to be a witness to an accident and leave the scene unless your life was in danger. it is possible for you to get a ticket, but it wont be a moving violation and wont be any points on your liscence. just a fine. you probably wont get one anyway. if you tell the truth im sure the judge/DA will be more than helpful. and you need to stop thinking about yourself and start thinking about your friend and how if you dont help him what it will cost him.

It may be possible for you to get a ticket, but if you should still go, stick up for your friend. If the old man says you were racing though, I'd recomend going in a different, crapy slow looking car, or have your parents give you a ride.

I think my friend is screwed either way. He admited to the cop that he was speeding. Im not sure if the cop wrote that down or not. If he did then he is done. He should be able to get out of it pretty good, if he didnt. And im not the only witness I had a friend in the car and he saw what I say too. Also if my friend gets a ticket, he will be okay. If i get one my car is gone, and everyhting. Im only 17.

Put it this way...do most people stop at the scene of an accident if they didn't cause it? Most people just keep on driving.

Sucks being under age dosen't it, i have the same thing with my parents, I get a ticket, they take my car, only they didn't buy my car and my names the one on the title, so i'd report it stolen.
The only thing they can give you a ticket for is leaving the scene of an accident, and even that would be highly unlikely since you were in no way involved. If you were going to get a ticket for it, you would have by now. There is no way they can give you a speeding ticket if there was no cop on the scene that saw it, and they can't get you for racing for the same reason. The only problem is since you left the scene and are the other guy's friend, they might not take you as a ligitimate witness, so there might not be anything you can do anyways. Ask your school cop, he'd know for sure and probably won't ask for details(most won't anyways, just make it clear your asking for advice, not if you could be fucked from this)
