I would like to settle this once and for all, maybe make this into a *sticky*. Is it really possible to stay in lift 1-2 gear shift?! I tried but I can't do it on mine yet, I only tried twice. I have an '04 GTS. When I shifted it felt like I had major turbo lag and/or the clutch was slipping...but it wasn't, I was just dipped out of lift.

Also, from looking up stock 0-60mph & 1/4 mile stats on the GTS, I've seen average numbers to be 7.1 & 15.7. But some have pulled off 6.6 & 15.2! These were all from professional drivers. Is this because with the latter test results, the drivers have been able to stay in LIFT in there shifts?

I know the 2002 is a lost cause because of the 7800rpm limiter, but 2000-01 & 2003 & up should be possible. So please tell me who can do it & how you do it.

1-2nd staying in lift is very possible. I wasnt able to do it when i first got my celica. It really depends how you shift. After some practice, i stay in lift most of the time. I get in to 2nd around 6200 and sometimes at 6000. Here is my time slip. I'm pretty much stock. I only have a trd exhaust ( at most a 2hp gain), trd ss and heavy ass 17 inch rims. I also had full interior and 1/4 tank of gas. hope this helps

Definately possible, but on the 03-04 it is harder since the fuel cut-off is a lot sooner versus 00-01 where fuel cut-off is at 8300. Get familiar with shifting and it will become natural. Mind you I learned stick on the celica. Definately do not try it before 2-3 months in the car if you are new to stick shift.

What is the difference between the Celica's, 2000 and up? Besides fuel cut off that was mentioned already. Im looking to get one but Im not sure whats different between the years and I dont want to get one that has something that I would'nt like. I have also heard that some of the newer years 2003+ has a change in the trany, can anyone explain please?

Hm, i landed lift from 1-2 shift the first time i tried. I never thought it was somethign that was hard to do. I have a 00 GTS... and i just rev up to 8400 and shift really fast. Almost land at 6400 RPM before.

Only reason it's hard in the beginning is because 1st gear drops faster than any other gear due to the fact that it's so short.

^^ yup thumbsup

best mag time I've ever seen was the 2001 issue of sport compact magazine. they ran a 14.9 stock. My own personal best 100% stock was 14.7. a member of the "other" celica site also ran a verified 14.7.

I think a good driver should have no problems running 14.9 on a stock celica.

also landing lift IS very possible to land in on the 1-2. It's not only how fast you shift but how well timed your shift is. I shift kinda on the slow side but I never have a problem landing lift.

www.ksbservices.com/vids [ksbservices.com] there should be a few vids of it in there with my racing vids thumbsup good luck and keep practicing.

Lucky_317 HOLY SHIT DUDE...your vids are awesome! I downloaded almost all of them. What mods do you have in the 1st couple vids, cause my car doesn't pull that hard (well its bone stock still). Urs totally sounds like a race car!
