I have a GT and I know it produces 125lbs/ft, but since I put some 18 inch rims on my car it seems like I only get 50lbs/ft. How do I get more torque. I do have a Greddy Evo Exhaust and Injen Air Intake already. And what about more horse power if possible, without getting a turbo kit?
The question is simple enough but something tells me the answer won't be!

Thanks for Your Help,
Chris Cannon

take those big ass rims off. you don't need them. you have 2 options, stock rims - go semi fast or leave those big ass rims on and go slow. Sorry for being harsh and truthful but that's how it is.

The wheels are hurting you. Thats the downside of having nice wheels sometimes. Pullies will definitely help, but feelings are very mixed when it comes to the UR pullies. You could also add an intake, the gains are good, but not the best. I do not think that we have a very reliable aftermarket rigth now for cam gears, so I don't know about those. Weigth reduction may help a bit, seats, carbon fiber hood, light weight parts (greddy exhaust is heavy).
Do some more exhaust work, header, custom mid pipe. Do some head and internal work, but that will cost you some money. Sorry this is really jumpy, its late and my mind is just rambling. Hope it gives you some ideas

you need to get your tire diameter back to 24". 17s with 225/40 rubber are perfect, 215/45 rubber is close.

Oh I know ... but that's pretty much the most practical way to do it.

Unless he wants to rebuild the motor for high compression ... etc ...

225/40 and 215/45 is the same size, needs to go 215/40 or 205/45

I'm sorry bro but your wrong, there all close:

215/40/17 = 23.8"
205/45/17 = 24.3"
215/45/17 = 24.6"
225/40/17 = 24.1" (almost perfect)

Note: stock 15s are on 195/60

Got Math?

In all honesty, the 18s are going to be your worst enemy when it comes to torque. The reason for this is the fact you have more rotational mass in your rims, ie. more mass towards the exterior of the wheel/tire. Anything that adds HP is also going to add some torque, the threee easiest things to do are CAI, exhaust and alternator pulley, you could also ad UR into the mix. You have to keep in mind that 4 bangers get most of their power in the high end though. We're not going to have low end torque like a Firebird, Camaro or Rustang.

Rustangs, Thats a good one...

You need to go to sports compact car website and read about part 2 of the celica gts project that they did in 2000 or 2001. It will tell you that the best rim size to get the performance you want is a 17" rim with 215/40 size tires.

Thanks and Check yah later...!
