Cobalt is the same car as a Saturn Ion. I don't think they want a repeat.

well what is she going to use it for??
if she needs a comfortable daily driver that seats 4 get the corrolla or the scion tC. nice two seater will be a 7th gen or 6th gen celica ST or GT. roomy in the back for average sized people and they run for ever... even when you beat them to the ground with constant redlineing and abuse itll still run like new.
if she likes to run or drive the car hard best bang for the buck car is a used SRT-4 , cobalts are going to be cheap and will rape most cars on the road. 95-02 civics.
but it depends on what shell use the car for..

yeah i seen the commercial for the new cobalts. They look very nice, especially the red ones. But the thought of a Domestic with a look of an import is just not right.

Ne way i'd say go with the tc or the corrolla. actually, American made cars are making a (slow) comeback in the realm of quality. i could see what you said being true 10 or even 5 years ago, but now domestic sport compacts are much more reliable than before.

don't forget you gotta take taxes and all that crap into play here. not really, if you haggle for the price you can get it to fit right around 17Gs. I'd go with reliability: Toyota Corolla, Toyota tC, Honda Civic, hell a used Celica.
