Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior Need expert help! Spark plug stumper...

I am tuning up my "new" '91 GT and 2 of the 4 plugs went great...the other 2 have NO hex, and feel kinda "spongy"...I was going to just run on 2 new and 2 old, but the new boots won't even go down on these funky plugs...***the car started okay on the day I began this...(a buddy just was guessing they were stripped/blown out!)***

Has anybody run into anything like this?

Tricks for removing?

Ideas why 2 are normal plugs and 2 are unlike anything I've seen before?

I am stuck until I figure this out and need to drive!

hmm, I am not very sure what you are talking about. Maybe your car is running rich on those 2 cylinders. Why can you not get them out? You have to get a socket on them to get them out. If you can't do that...I don't know what else to do.

That's just it...looking down inside the well, there is not a hex visible. And those two plugs feel "springy" if you push down against the tip of them. I've looked at a denso web site and bosch too...hoping to see some kind of special plug listing that could explain this!

I am stopping at a snap-on driver's house on the way home from work and seeing if he has anything that will fit down into the well and could get a grip on the plug tip to possibly remove it.

Hopefully you can get a socket on them. If not, maybe a set of needle nose can get down there. And if that doesn't wrok, looks like you will be taking some parts off of your engine. Good luck with it and keep this updated.

Last advice of the day yesterday was to check and see if any part of the old boot was somehow left on the tip of the plug, interfering with the socket being able to seat...

Nothing there, and even though looking down into the well, I and another guy (an ex GM mechanic) can clearly see there is NO HEX on these two plugs...this is killing me!

It was too late when I gave up for the night, but I think I'm gonna try just putting the old wires back on these two plugs so maybe it will start.

[color=red][/color] PS: I did remove the valve cover and tried to take off one of the "wells" ...it turned very hard and I was afraid to keep going, plus I'm not convinced I was going to pick up anything...
Any ideas from anyone about how to remove these is appreciated!
