I was thinking about getting an aem pulley for my 2000 gt. I wanted to know if they gave good power gains. Any info is useful and appreciated.

i have it and i love it! though i belive the more mods you have the more you'll get out of it. but if it's the only mod you have it'll give out prolly 1-2 hp. you can get it here at the ecelica store btw-the first thing i noticed was throttle response...you'll feel this especially if you have a lumbering auto like me

AEM Tru- Power- pulleys increase power by reducing the parasitic drag caused by factory accessory pulleys. Our lightweight pulleys reduce rotating weight and are slightly oversized to maximize efficiency, which nets more horsepower at the wheels. We guarantee our pulleys' belt tooth profiles to match O.E. specifications, eliminating any chance of premature belt wear. Comprehensive installation instructions, replacement belts and AEM decals are included in every kit. ... AEM manufactures two pulley systems whenever possible. Typically, these are the power steering and alternator pulleys. In some cases, AEM manufactures an alternator and water pump pulley. When the water pump and power steering pulleys are pressed onto the shaft of the accessory, AEM manufactures a single pulley system for the alternator. Every AEM Tru-Power pulley system includes properly sized replacement belts and comprehensive installation instructions. The belt tooth profile on AEM Tru-Power pulley systems are guaranteeed to match the OE belt tooth profile to prevent premature belt wear and eliminate any chance of belt slippage. *IMPORTANT: Vehicle manufacturers have thoroughly investigated the use of torsional vibration dampeners and conclude that their use significantly reduces NVH (noise, vibration and harshness). Furthermore, manufacturer and independent research shows that torsional vibration dampeners are critical to engine life where long-term use is intended. Removing the torsional vibration dampener from an engine can be highly detrimental to its long-term operation! http://www.aempower.com/product_pulley.aspKey Features: **CNC-machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminum **Properly sized replacement belts included in every kit **Removal of the torsional vibration damper NOT necessary* **Manufactured and assembled in the USA

A crank pulley would eliminate the torsional dampener on your car. AEM doesn't have a crank pulley in their kit. Therefore, it won't harm your car.
I have an AEM kit for the RSeX. The only difference I noticed was that the heater/defroster took a long ass time to get going. Not very fun if you are running late for work in the winter time.
Didn't do any before/after dyno tests with it, so I'm not sure how much, if any, hp I gained. It DOES look nice, though.

so an AEM pulley is safe ? yes my friend..it is safe. as stated before isaac doesn't sell stuff in his store that will damgae or shorten engine life ..that is probably why turbos and nitrous are not in his store BTW-people will tell you your lights will dim but i have not experienced this yet to date. my MTEC's are as brioght as ever..

this has been covered many times... I may be getting mine on today and will tell you guys what it's like... and yes it is safe...it is just an aftermarket alternator pulley. It can't harm anything. As for the lights dimming...that's if you have a GT and it's one of those less voltage batteries or something, so with this new pulley, it won't produce as much energy or whatever to keep the lights it's brightest...and i have no idea what I am talking about..someone wanna clear that up for me?

I do have a gt and If the weather package includes a rear wiper and defroster then I guess I have the bigger battery. Also I have a 600 watt(max) stereo, would I being making a mistake by getting this upgrade?

Also I have a 600 watt(max) stereo, would I being making a mistake by getting this upgrade? It might be too much of a load on the alternator if you install a lightweight pulley on an alternator that's already running a 600 watt (max) stereo. In other words, I wouldn't buy one for my car if I had your stereo. It may not damage your car, but it probably wouldn't be beneficial either.

I will go ahead and have it installed and I will let you guys know if it messes things up for me. Hopefully it gives me a hundred more horsepower and puts my 1/4 mile down to low 9's, or is that asking too much?

When you press your cig-lighter in, it drops your car's amperage down a few notches... almost kills it if you have your radio blasting and you are in high RPMs (it actualy kicks your RPMs down and you loose power just because of the cig lighter's drain on your alternator)

In all seriousness, good luck!

if you have a smaller battery and the dimming occurs...go out and buy a high powered one...shouldn't that fix things?

hmmmmm, interesting, i have the pulley but havent installed yet, is this a fact for the power drain? if you have a weak car battery, it can't keep up with the new pulley spinning...therefore...decreased electrical circuitry. your lights and stuff will dim on the interior and around... all you have to do is buy a high powered battery.

I have the pulley and I agree with ct as he said way above. The pulley alone wont give you noticable hp gain, but you will notice a throttle response. If teamed up with a CAI or Shortram your pulley will perform more noticably. I say get it because my throttle response was horrible, but after the pulley I saw a noticable change.

Thanks for all the info guys. I will have mine installed this coming up Sunday. I would have it done sooner but I don't have an impact wrench. I will post another forum whenever I drive my car for a little bit to let you know how is is affected by the stereo.

Get like a 1000 watt Cap, then you won't have to worry about any damn dimming.
