Can the engine computer be reprogramed to kick the extra lift sooner like the elise? I have seen ads for gadges that will reprogram the ecu for more HP is this worth lookin into? I cruise under 4000 rpm so it would not be kicking in all the time. My commute is 80 MI and could not afford the gas bill of a turbo.

6000 rpm and they claim 190 HP!! I want some!! eek

it says:

"These adjustments were largely accomplished by reprogramming the Engine Control Unit (ECU or engine computer)."

yep, the Apexi power FC can do it . pretty powerful tool for manual GTS owners. it costs about $1200 but you can correct and alter your air/fuel maps, adjust lift engagement points.

changing lift isn't going to give you more HP thumbsdown You need to tune your bolt ons with a new ECU. That's why the lotus is faster because it is tuned to different uses of it's existing engine resources. In a celica we need to bolt on new things to increase the resources our engine has to use. From there you can tune your maps to make the car get more HP.

if you can reach lift faster and land lift easier then you'll get faster acceleration, and correcting some air/fuel discrepancies will produce more power.

Why can't the stock ECU be tweeked? If I pop the EPROM out and get it into a reader, any paramiters can be set as long as they in the sensing range of the stock sensors. I'm not under any emission inspections so I'm already tricking the 2nd O2. Guttting the catalitic converter increased my top speed. I need to find a salvaged gts ECU and play!!

not true. if you want a more powerful car you need to increase power throught the RPM range. You need a better power curve not peak.

it's not that simple, toyota ECUs don't take well to piggybacking of any sort. You really need a new ECU.

I would flash new code onto the EPROM then reinstall.

If I can achive a longer volumetric effincy by lifting sooner, I can pass quicker, true I will not improve peak HP because the max lift should already be at the peak HP band, but the kick in the butt sooner would be cool!!!

The crate engine is the same as in the Elise. The car rating must be luxury so lower emissions are meet. ( tax added to car because of this ) there for more fule is added. The engine is hyperventelating to reach todays emissions for Toyota sales. If it's sold as a pleasure vehicle they can leagaly do so.

then why go through all the work with the ECU? Engaging lift sooner isn't gunna really do you any good. If you want to make up some horsepower without worrying about emissions just do a down pipe.

since the lotus and gts have same engine, and the more horsepower is due to better tuning, couldnt you put a lotus ecu in the gts...dunno just curious if that would work...

If the harness is the same I don't see why not. 9600 John Deere combines use GM ECUs

Downpipe is a great Idea! I could hook up a solinoid dump valve and everything!

I guess I need to quit being a tightwad and spend the money on a turbo. What kind of milage are people getting with turbos?

^ haha you need to pick one or the other.

You can't put an elise ECU in a celica, but go ahead and try if you must.

BUT saving up for a PFC and a turbo and tuning the system would be a much better idea thumbsup

ok people this is hopefully th elast thread about the elise.

let me set some things straight.

1) the elise is faster cause it's RWD and only weighs 1900 lbs. (give or take a couple)

2) YES, the elise has the exact same 2ZZ-GE engine.

3) It's rated 190 hp just like the over seas celica t-sport wink.

4) Yes, they did some ecu changes and NO, you cant put the lotus ECU on a celica.

5) lowering lift engagement will NOT give you ANY more power. without proper tuning in other places you will LOSE power.

6) if you want to tune a celica simply purchase the apexi power fc. It will let you play with anything you can think of as far as parameters of the stock ecu go. including idle, rev limiter, valve timing, ignition etc...

7) the elise is not some magical super powered version of the celica. You're time and money will be better spent researching the capabilities of your own car instead of lookin for a quick fix from another car. It's the same damn thing in the end.

damn, my post was deleted, but yeah they tuned the elise ecu with the new exhaust they gave it --> same thing as celica ppl getting new exhaust and then tuning with pfc

im with floydian on this one, get the mods first and then tune the ecu to use those mods better

oooooooohh turbo that sonofa!

I would guess the 2000-2001 style. only for 2002 did they add the extra wire and I dont see why they would use that one.

Lucky_317, you know a lot about PowerFCs and stuff, so I just wanted to know, will it work on my '04 which has drive-by-wire? Cause I really want to get that soon.

In regards to #3: The european T-SPORT is rated at 192hp, not 190.
