Celica Forums General Discussion Engine and Performance Replacing Oxygen Sensor

my 00 celica has a faulty O2 sensor that needs to be replaced. my dad and i were thinking about doing it ourselves. My dad has replaced the oxygen sensors on a ford expedition before. my question is, does anyone know how much harder it will be to replace the O2 sensor on my car vs. the expedition. should we even attempt it, or just bring it to a mechanic (who quoted me $300 for the repeair)?

are you sure its your o2 sensor or could it be your maf sensor?

no, its 02. the dealerhsip already ran the diagnostics

It is fairly easy if you get a direct replacement.

wow thats alot, i got 2 02 sensors and a maf replaced free under warrenty, makes me happy, id say if you got the part do it yourself and save the money

well autozone told me it was the o2 sensor so I just ordered an o2 sensor from the dealer. However, this weekend, I cleaned my MAF sensor and the damn CEL has not come on since... (I know, i should have done this first)

So, I've got a precat-o2 sensor for sale if you need it. Unopened. The receipt from the dealer says they don't take returns on "special orders". BS. But they give credit. I don't care, whatever. I got it for $150 total. If interested, PM me.

you got ripped. My dealer charged $125 for the sensor INSTALLED.

things happen. in all actuality, that was the cheapest dealer around here...others quoted me at $175 $160...so congrats to you!

make sure its your O2 though, my 00 GTS was throwing the faulty O2 codes, but it turned out to be a faulty ECU

how did you find out that it was the ecu? because my 00 GTS came up as P0141. O2 sensor, bank one, sensor 2 faulty. Maybe my ecu is bad. but thats pretty expensive isnt it?

Yes the ECU is expensive if you buy it from the dealer 700-800 dollars. I had to replace mine along with all my injectors since their is a TSB for 2000 Celica GTS for ECU and injectors. You can find the parts way cheaper at www.car-part.com [car-part.com] The codes I had were P0171 and P0300. After replacing my ECU and injectors I no longer get the code P0300 but I do get P0171(Running Lean). I think its my sensors as well. Dealer wont give me an answer since I have a CAI and Air/Fuel Gauge.

i got the reapir done and the CEL hasnt come back on, so it was definatly the O2 sensor. it was an easy repair once i found where the end connected in.

I need help. i have toyota celica 2000. I need to change bank 1 sensor 1 ( O2 sensor) but is it upstream or down stream one? Dose any one know?

Upstream is forward of the CAT - Catalytic Converter (closet to the Exhaust Manifold) and downstream is after the CAT, closes to the CATBACK Exhaust. Note: the O2 Sensors are different, so ensure you pickup the upstream one. They have different part #'s. Note 2 - From my personal experience only, so other's may have experienced different - Ensure you pick up a OEM one and not after market. I replaced mine with after market and it lasted a few months.

Any DIY video or instructions to change Oxygen sensor upstream and downstream?
