My g/f gave me her 87 honda civic for winter beater. I was quote $189 for 6 month coverage. Yet 3 WEEKS later from the date I purchase the coverage, I have to cancel it because I don't need the car anymore. And today I got a bill from them for $80...I was like WTF is this! I will call them tomorrow to talk about this, but is there anything I need to know? Why do they charge me $80 for 3 weeks coverage when 6 months is only $189? I'm clueless? please help! thank everyone!

because you only purchased coverage for 3 months not 6. They make money based on the length of time their customers are with their company.

Because most places minimum is for three months so that's maybe what they charged you for.

Hey...shouldn't we get at least 1/2 of our money back in the year if we have no incidents? Insurance suks man but at least my deductible is covering my $4101.14 from the accident I just had.
I think you should be able to get back that $80

that's what it is... cause i know when i wanted to cancel the insurance on my 3000GT for the winter one year it would've costed me like $60.. (and that was 3 or 4 years ago so i'm sure it's gone up) plus i would've lost my multi-car discount... it actually ended up being cheaper to just keep my GT on the insurance (believe it or not)... insurance is freakin weird... and i agree... we should get at least PART of our money back if we don't have any accidents or anything..

nah. Think about it this way what if someone said they were gunna race you for $400 and you were tied all the way up the track, then halfway they said, eh i don't feel like it anymore and stopped their car. Then afterwards when you went to get your cash said, well I didn't finish the race. I wasn't losing when I stopped racing, so I COULD'VE won I just got sick of the race so I should only have to pay you half the cash.

People would scam insurance companies more than they do now. I hate insurance too but stuff like cancelation fees are a necessary evil.
