I have no idea how or why, but I now have a chunk missing from the trim around the driver side rear window (triangle window) on my car. It is the hard black trim around the back drivers side window.

Does anyone know how to fix this? The dealer wants big $$$ to install a new trim piece. Is it just held on with 3M tape or what?

^^ it's weather stripping trim champ. Depending on how much is missing you may now have a leak in that window. If you don't have a leak using some silicone to secure a piece in it's place will work, though it will look crappy. You're going to have to retrim the whole thing if you want it to look normal again. That involves taking out the interior plastics and retrimming and restripping the window from the inside.

there should be a part number for it. visit your totata dealers parts shop and ask if there is a part # and how much it will be. if you do the repair yourself it will save you some cash.

it's probably not leaking though, is it? my guess is it was ripped from the inside so the exterior sealing should still be fine.

The trim is actually on the outside of the car. I took the interior pieces off to make sure it is not leaking, and the seal is good. Fixing it would be purely for aesthetics. The local dealer quoted a price of $80.00 and $100.00 to install. I am trying to save on the install by doing it myself if possible.

I am not sure if I will have to take the whole window out to replace this or if it is just glued on with 3M tape. It is very hard for me to tell without ripping into it. Has anyone had this off before?

it's so easy to install, i got new ones for my car when i repainted it, there's just like 6-8 screws holding it on.

narcolepsy123456,

That is good news. The dealer had me a bit worried with saying the glass might break when they try removing the old or installing the new one, etc. I didn't see any screws when I had the inside apart though. How do you get to the screws?

that is beginning to happen to me. it's like it shrunk or something, except mine is more toward the front. My car is almost 5 years old so nothin i didn't expect to happen, just have to replace it sooner or later.

wait wait, i misread the first post...

it's the rear quarter glass that you're talking about, hmm. wish i could tell you they're easy as pie to get out, but they're not. you could see if a glass company would cut them out since they're held in with silicone adhesive and two clips on the bottom. they did break on me when i tried to get them out for repainting my celica, but i got new one's from toyota of goldsboro for like 215 a piece.

Was that for just the glass, or the whole assembly?
