Hey fellas (and fella'etts)

Before winter came I have been trying to hit lift shifting from first to second, and staying in lift. I havn't been able to acomplish this yet. Do you guys shift right at the redline or go past it a ways or whats your trick to getting to land. I think I'm shifting quick enough.

Whens the rev limiter kick in? or fuel cutoff off, whichever it is?

well after reading all this stuff about landing in lift. i went out for a test drive in my 00gts. i dont really drive it that hard often because i enjoy the car too much.i hit exactly 8000rpms in first and shifted into second, landing lift at 6500rpms.. with no problem. i know some of you are going to question this but i have no reason to ly. i agree the higher you take the rpms the higher you will land in rpms. so if you were to take it the fuel cutoff(8400) maybe you would land at 6700gs? anyhow, my point is that i landed lift in first today with out going over redline.

I believe you but I think you have to be slipping the clutch because how the gear ratios are set up it is impossible to land at 6k let alone 65k. But to answer the question hit fuel cutoff at 8359 and shift as fast as you can. You should not have to force it to second it should be smooth as butter. GOOD LUCk

amen to that bigtony... No matter what kinda car it is if its a stick i can race that SoB. People dont know what is under there cars nowadays! First thing i do when someone lets me drive KNOWING im going to hot rod it. Is Dump the clutch in first, slam second and completely red line 3rd out. More times than not they are impressed that thier car can move that fast than they are mad that i did it.

you will know when you lift shift in 2nd when you hear the motor stutter for a split second in lift RPMS and it will continue through second gear.

Well my second gear is fucked up to though, which could be my problem. Whenever I go near redlining my car, it is extreamly difficult for it to get into 2nd gear, NOTHING like butter.

Probably should take it in.

ok I'm not about to get into the explination on why this is physically impossible so please for your own sake just accept what I'm going to tell you smile

the reason you landed at 6,500 rpms when shifting at 8,000 is because of wheel spin. lots of wheel spin. had you NOT had excessive wheel spin you would've landed around 5700 - 5800 rpms.

this is why people who first use slicks or drag radials for the first time get slower. you have to learn more precise timing on your shifts since you wont be getting any wheel spin wink

https://celicahobby.com/vip/albums/album20/TTFN.wmv

^^ this video is a perfect example of no wheel spin. I land at exactly 6500 rpms shifting at 8500 rpms ( I don't have stock limiter)

hopefully this makes sense to you so I won't have to get into the whole gearing equations to show why its physically impossible spineyes cause that stuff is no fun to read.

I have that prob too. Its almost like it bounces off 2nd gear and you have to force it. Im gonna get a b&m this week and im hoping it might clear things up.

RESPECT thumbsup..13.7 is mind boggling!

No I don't know much about him and his car, just learning as I go along. I've read lots of his posts, certainly seems to know GTS inside/out. I've only been on this board now for like 1.5 mos, so familiarizing myself with who's who as I go along.

I have had that problem decently often too. Mostly when i first got my car. Now that i've had it for a while...i think i've found some sort of groove...cuz i haven't had that problem in a month or two. Maybe this has nothing to do with it whatsoever...but it seems easier to shift into 2nd at or above 8k then it does around 7-7.5k...I dunno...just don't force it too much or you will grind...just try practicing more...and make sure your car is definitely warmed up well first.

I have that problem also on my GTS, I've came to the conclusion that it's the motor mount bushings that need to be replaced. I'm planning on ordering a set from ptuning.com
