I am getting a new Eclipse head unit this weekend. I was planning on installing it myself, but they said that *they* wtf had to do it because the factory amp has to be bypassed.

Is this true? confused I won't be installing a separate amp, so wouldn't I want to keep(and use) the factory one?

ok, do you have the premium sound system ? if you do then you will have to extend the speaker leads to the harness to use the aftermarket head unit

Yeah, its a GTS, so it has the stock 8 speaker config.

So the wire leads have to run all the way around to the glove box?

the stock amp is up on the right side of the car behind and above the glove box.

you have to run speaker wires from the output side of the amp to the eclipse wiring harness.

I did it for my alpine, it's not hard!

I also would recommend soldering the wires together then covering with tape, rather than just twisting and then taping.

Makes better connections.

Headunits that require external amplification dont have internal amps. They only have RCA's, which are usually very high voltage.

As for the installation, like they said, just crimp new speaker leads from the headunit into the existing cable from the amp.

as an eclipse dealer I will tell you this much...

get it installed by the dealer in order to get the 3 YEAR warranty...

self install only gives you a ONE YEAR warranty.

also for theone that mentioned soemthing about no RCA output...even the lowest end model that retails at like 200 has 2 rca output.

the 2003 lineup only has ONE model that does not have a builtin amp..

and that's the one in my car. right now...the CD8053

also...for the record... even the middle end models provide better sound quiality than the higher end model on 90% of other brands LoL

eclipse really does own like a mother fucker...

also...your factory headunit is made eclipse wink

toyota knows where the quiality is.

I was looking at either the 5433 or the 8443. cool I heard the 8443 doesn't really have a true 8V output on it though. eek

So, if I have to bypass the factory amp for the install, should I get an aftermarket amp to replace it? confused

the eclipse training I attended this year they had the volt meters on 3 of their models...

the and they produced just what they listed...8 volt with 55ohm impedance.

if you bypass the amp that means you will run power from the head unit to the speakers direct...

schosche I think it's spelled makes a harness that uses the the rca preamp on your headunit and you can use te factory amp.

also upgrading to an aftermarket amp will provide you with sound that is louders and cleaner than what your stereo ever sounded.

if you need any help on a one on one basis feel free to IM me.
