Just got my filter by mail today, $40 shipped. I wanted to keep my engine stock as possible so i decided to get the trd filter rather than buying paper filter everytime i get oil change. Any way, i was wondering about the oil that you have to put on the filter everytime you clean it. I heard that it might disrupt the maf sensor or something like that. Is that true? I could understand if there's excessive amount oil to the point where it's dripping off the filter, that might have a impact on it. By the way, the car runs smoother and i could feel that extra 0.5 horses.

I was thinking of getting one, but I'm getting an intake in May. when you mean the car runs smoother, in what way, acceleration? Shifting? Sound?

The trd filter is good at what it does. But of coarse you are not gonna be looking at really any gain. To clean the trd air filter get the k&n recharger kit (or something comparable) and just make sure you dont put on to much oil like you said. If you dont put on too much oil you will be fine.

you can't feel 0.5 hp... if you can, why need a dyno? obviously its in your head... but yeah, it should give you a slight hp increase, and also do the butterfly valve mod as well and that will give you better throttle response...

What I would recommend is to take out your intake butterfly also. I have the TRD drop in and no intake butterfly and it sounds nice. Nice enough for me anyways.

I wouldn't take out the butterfly, it will make your car harder to start in cold days and it could stall at idle when your sitting at a traffic light. And if your car is 03&up, your CEL will come on.

Yeah it sounds better but I can tell my car takes a second longer to start up in cold weather which I dont like.

Actually I've heard the gains are around 2 HP. Don't quote me on that though...

As for the MAFS, after cleaning it you need to let it dry. If you oil it and put it right in the oil will get sucked off and go into the MAFS and ruin it.

You won't feel 0.5 HP, heck most people won't feel 2. The butterfly mod will give the car a very nice sound, but it doesn't do jack for throttle response. However, like GTS2003BLK said, it can cause you to stall. There are people who have had to do a panic stop, so they pushed in the clutch and slammed on the brakes. At that point the butterfly is supposed to engage, but since it was removed it didn't and the car stalled, causing them to lose brake power. As for cold weather starting, I'm not sure how much difference it makes. I've checked before, and the butterfly turns on about 5 seconds after starting the engine.

This is done to help the engine start and idle properly in cold weather.

Sounds like the benefits of removing the butterfly valve are few, but the
benefits of leaving it in are many.

i have an 04 with removed butterfly and no cel here... just have to plug up the hose that was once attached to the valve thumbsup

Hmmm...dunno about the car stalling but I have not encounter that yet. Have not really done any panic stopped since it was taken off, so I am not sure.

Just doing this till I get enough cash to get the TPR intake.

I have an auto, so I don't worry about stalling in a panic stop. grin

I took my butterfly off in summer, and never had a problem, but now with colder weather the car will idle a little rough immediately after stopping (unless it's a very smooth stop).

I did a panic stop yesterday with the butterfly off and it did not stall. I was going about 90MPH when another car jumped into my lane because she was trying to cut off a car that was driving in front of her. Pressed down the clutch and hit the brakes to about 50mph and the car didn't stall.

Not sure if warming the car up makes a difference but I have it running for at least 5 mins before heading out.

its a nice little tid bit to the celica. But if you have the money? why not settle for a real intake system? confused

haha, actually had this happen to me, but it wasn't a panic stop it was i came to a stop sign at the top of an overpass after an exit, in fact it happened to me twice in one night and then once, again. The problem also had to do with having a dirty MAFS. But i had mine out and it is back in.

A good way to prevent the car from stalling during a panic stop would to just use some heel toe to keep rpms high enough while riding the brake hard.
