Ok .. question for all you hotshot bad ass fellow celica owners... will installing dual exhaust on a GTS double the horsepower gain from that mod in contrast to a single exhaust system? how is the dual exhaust system implimented? what are the benefits of a dual exhaust sytem on the celica ?
![[Linked Image]](https://celicahobby.com/forums/attach/1953483609-sig46.jpg) Ask yourself one question. Is the juice worth the squeeze?

Actually it will lessen the horsepower. ![thumbsdown thumbsdown](https://celicahobby.com/forums/images/graemlins/celica/thumbsdown.gif) The only benefit from it is the look if you like it. ![spineyes spineyes](https://celicahobby.com/forums/images/graemlins/celica/spineyes.gif)

if you have a V8 or V6 engine, its reasonable to have dual setup, we have Inline 4 engines so... you know...

for a better explanation.
A true dual exhaust system will have two individaul exhausts, which includes header, cat, and muffler. Only V6 and up engines can have this because they have 2 banks. We, as inline 4s have one bank which includes only one header. My question to you is...how is all that extra piping and weight going to add hp, let alone twice as much? You still have just one muffler. Hope that helps clear things up. Peaceout

Dual exhaust looks cool, but you don't need it.
just makes it harder to get the exhaust out of the car!

Dual exhaust looks good, but too little back pressure is bad, you will actually lessen hp.

it will lessen horsepower. straight through designs USUALLY add the most horepower (obviously this is impossible with a dual exhaust)

you can actually bend valvles from having so little back pressure with dual exhaust if it didnt already come on your car!

dual exhaust on our cars is not a good idea:
A) less backpressure unless designed properly, a drop in HP too. dual would work well, however, if it was designed to deliver the right amount of backpressure.
B) more muffers/pipe will add weight to the car, one of the goals of aftermarket exhaust is to reduce weight. heavier-slower.
C) you'll have to notch the bumper for the other tip.
Now, duals have two benifits: They sound cool and they look neat. Dual is good for show cars.
What would be best is a Straight-back exhaust. Our exhaust header is cenetered, and our undercarriage open enough to allow it from the cat-back. no bends =less backpressure, but the right muffler will make it work. Perhaps a single-turbine muffler would work best. (The turbine acts like an exhaust brake, and torque would be great. Aside from a straight back exhaust, a slanted muffler-style catback setup would be good too.

Why does everyone seem to think that an engine needs back pressure to perform well?? Backpressure is ALWAYS bad under any circumstance. What you need to do is keep the exhaust stream velocity high. What happens with open exhaust is the flow stagnates because of the bigger diameter so exhaust scavenging is decreased. That said, dual exhaust on anything that doesn't have 2 exhaust banks is all show no go.

more backpressure is better in cold climates, it helps the engine warm up faster.

Hmm... never heard that before. Would you care to explain?? I don't see how. And as for what I said, I was speaking in terms of performance. The poster before me spoke on backpressure and tried to tie reduced backpressure to decreased performance.

ok ummm think in a diesel, when the glow plugs dont work, you can put a plate over the end of the exhaust, causing backpressure, which also therin raises the compression slighty

Gotcha. Makes sense with diesel engines which have amazingly high compression ratio's already, like 20:1 or something like that. ![thumbsup thumbsup](https://celicahobby.com/forums/images/graemlins/celica/thumbsup.gif)

only the big ones, the small ones are less, like the ones in the military HMMWV are like 19:1, but the 5 tons are like 23:1
