I have a celica gt with upgraded HU and coaxial speakers all around. I just bought some new tweeters i was wondering if needed to intall the crossover with it? My new HU produce only 18RMS so i was kind of skeptical if that enought to damage the tweeters that could handle 50RMS. I am only replacing the stock front tweeter to a new tweeter. Thanks in advance!

I would becuase crossovers prevent you from blowing out your tweeters if you decide to push em hard.

you bought just a set of tweeters? what kind... and yes, you need to use the crossover. The crossover is what in essence, filters out the frequency you do not want going to the tweeter. How are you planning on hooking up the tweeters set with a set of coaxials? Keep in mind the ohm load of both speakers, and the affects it has on the watteage of your HU.

I've already intalled coaxial speakers last year and kept the tweeters stock. I kinda regret that i didn't get component speakers but oh well, gotta move on. I was planning to intall the new knewood kfc-t205ie tweeter where the factory one is using the same wire from the stock tweeter. Do you know the factory tweeter wire, one is red and another is black, which is postive and negative?

hobie...the 18RMS is the power running to the speakers (watts). The crossover filters out frequencies, not watts. It keeps low bass freqs. from goint to the tweeters since they aren't designed to play low freqs. Just like ElectricIce said, you can't just ADD tweeters, you have to match the OHMs with the Head unit.

thank guys, learned a lot today. I'm not really a audio guy as you could tell, it took 2 days just to replace the door speakers...LOL. The tweeter's impedance is 4 OHMS. I have alpine 9830, is that kind of match?

If you wire your tweeters and coaxs, both 4 ohms, in parallel, you will have a 2 ohm load, which is probably not a healthy load for that headunit. (i assumed the coax set was also 4 ohms)

If you wire your tweeters and coaxs, both 4 ohms, in series, you will have a 8 ohm load, which would net you a lower wattage, and less "volume". (again i assumed the coax set was also 4 ohms)
