I was reading on the other celica forums how the '05 models won't rev past 7800rpm and will hit fuel cut?! Is this true, can someone with an '05 here comfirm this?

If so, then the so call "mistake" or ECU glitch Toyota claimed in '02 was total b.s., because now they purposely made it official. If this is true, can you '05 people even land lift 2nd to 3rd gear shift still? Matrix XRS '05 owners can't.

I think the '05 people are totally screwed performance wise, because you can't fix the problem. The Power-FC won't even work on '03&up models. frown

Yes, Toyota ruined the Celica... much like they've ruined their entire brand.

I think the Celica GTS was an expensive car for Toyota to develop, because it had so much great technology and fresh ideas when it came out, but over the years due to horrible marketing and a totally different direction of the company, they never recovered from there investment. So just like any corporation, great idea + bad profits = equals the AXE! (notice how the Celica is always missing from Toyota Commercials). Producing them in Japan & shipping them over here was too expensive so they decided, let's screw the idea over and stop people from buying them by making the car both unaffordable and non-competitive so it dies out. I really think they had this in mind. I think they came to a point and decided, screw sports cars, lets concentrate on trucks, SUV and luxury cars where the money at! So they decided to kill it and kill it bad. I don't expect them to sell much '05 models at all, now that they seemed to have ruined it. I'm not a big fan of those new Altezza style tailights, so thank God I got an '04. I see the '03 & '04s as the best overall Celica to have been bought brand spanking new, simply because the quality level was a lot higher (no more vinyl mixed seats, true leather and way better interior materials)..and switch to newer technology, ie. DBW which is extensively used by BMW, AUDI & MBENZ.

But I do give props to the 2000/01, because its modding potential is way greater & the cars are way more affordable.

I hear some dealerships have decided not to even carry '05 models, unless its special pre-paid orders!

I can't believe as a manufacturer that is well respected and would like to have competive products, totally go backwards on a niche market that they were doing so well at. Guess they have other ideas and direction they rather pursue. rolleyes

If you don't care about going F/I or adding the PFC, the 03-04 years are by far the best. The interrior is much better in all black with all the lights the same color orange. Also, the tails are much better looking and the sunroof is real glass. thumbsup

^ that is if you have a GTS...GT's on 03-04 can still have great F/I kits smile and the inside is so much better imo...but if you have a GTS and want to go a lot faster like a 03-04 GT, then go with 2000-2002.

I have heard 2 versions, will the '05 not let you rev past 7800rpm's in gear, or in neutral? Some cars wont let you rev so high when your in Neutral.

i dont understand when toyota says they lost money on celica. HOW? look on the streets, its full of celicas. rsx is not even 20-30% of it yet. i think toyotas business will be called only profitable if they sell cars like hotcakes like camry. you cant compare them both, and i dont think it costs toyota too much money to make that car. the only unique thing about it is the engine, but the prius and all the other models definetely cost more than the celica. plus they invested money on corolla xrs, why the hell would you do that? thats a loss of money i think. if you look around there are just too many 00-02 celicas out there on the streets.
the way toyota does business just sucks, win some lose some, every company does that but toyota just knows "win some, then win some more"

Toyota must be doing something right to be #2 automaker in the world. Keep in mind that most people don't buy "enthusiast cars" so that's not where the money is for a car company.

Also, would it be possible to swap ecu's with an '04? As the '02 people swap '00 and '01 ecu's?

I meant, swap an '04 ecu into the '05. Some '04's had the DBW, so wouldnt it be compatible?

The eyelids on the '05 are merely dreadful. Dealbreakers. If I bought an '05, I would bring tools to the dealership at delivery time. Before I drove off the lot, I would make some quick 'mods' to the 'lids.
Werd.

DBW came out in '03. There is no DBW in the GT model, so you must have a GT, not a GTS.

I think i'm confusing people lol

If you had, a 2005 GTS...with the DBW and rev limiter, couldn't you swap the ECU for a 2004 gts, that also has DBW but no rev limiter? Much like the 2002 GTS's swap their ECU's with the 2001 GTS?

The 2002 to 2000/01 conversion required replacing the knock sensor as well. So I believe, if you have an '05 and want to convert to '04 ECU, you'll have to change the knock sensor too. It can be done, but will require lots of expensive parts and lots of time.

In addition to the engine stuff; the 05 action package is puke fake grill in the front and fake chrome exhaust tip in the rear and those tail lights look awful.

I remember looking an 05 over last time I was at the dealership for servicing and shaking my head in disbelief at what Toyota had done to a car that has such a long and proud heritage, its just not right that Celica should go out like that.

The grill and the lights don't bother me (I've got an '04). But yeah, the fake tip is puke.

I'm glad I got an '04 too. The new clear tailights in '05 I think looks best on the RED car. The other darker colors, including white, I think looks best with the 03+ tails, IMO.

Here is what I plan to do, cleaned up this way, I think the new package looks pretty HOT (its something unique & different):

Drop it like its HOT on some nice rims & coilovers, fill in and paint the front plastic pieces bodycolor, add a front bumper lip piece (which I plan to have custom made soon) and optionally get rid of the color-keyed headlights.

I think it looks pretty tight this way.

Get rid of the fake exhaust tip when you upgrade to an aftermarket exhaust:

you mean #3 grin

1. gmc
2. ford
3. toyota

and gmc & ford aren't separated by much...toyota is pretty distant from both. if you are talking about purely BRANDS:

1 & 2 is chevy & ford, toyota is still #3 in this category too.

Speed4TheNeed, that ranking is based on SIZE of the manufacturer and how much they sell worldwide.

But according to J.D. Power and Associates, Toyota is ranked #1 in Vehicle Reliability for 2004:

Here is the top 5:

1. Toyota
2. Honda
3. Porsche
4. GM
5. BMW
