I've got a 10inch sub i want to put in my '02 celica. i'm currently shopping around for a custom enclosure, but i'm going to have to save up for a month or two before i can pick out one i really want. in the meantime, i just have a cheap little ported enclosure in my trunk. I've got two questions i'd appreciate ya'll weighing in on. First, from your experiences, what is the best direction to point the sub for the best bass? I know that varies depending on what type of music you listen to. I mostly listen to rock (need to hear that bass drum) and hip hop. For rock, i like an accurate sounding bass, whereas w/ hip hop and rap, i like a larger warmer sound. Any direction that will satisfy both? Second, in the 7th gen celica, there's that plastic well towards the back of the trunk. I pried that thing off, thinking I could put the sub there facing backwards for now. Upon yanking it out, i found that it's just covering some metal in the exact same shape! I was just curious if anyone had any other solutions on this problem to make the sub sit flush against the back of the rear seats to preserve SOME trunk space... not that i'm going to be moving any lumber any time soon, but still.. thanks to all who can contribute their 2 cents

people build boxes that fit over that bar in the trunk. get a trapezoidal box so that the back will fit right with the angle of the back seat

the only change i might make is to put it all under plexiglass or something in case i want to put gallon of milk or something back there...
i'm doing some comparison shopping and setups similar to yours i've seen run about 5 or 6 hundred. if you don't mind my asking, how much was your setup?

I have custom covers for it that fit over it so i can throw things back there. I was worried about not being able to use the trunk but i can and do. I think the encloser was about 7 or 8 hundred. I'm not positive on that because i bought everything at once, sub, amps, speakers, HU, dynomat the whole nine yards and that was all about 4500ish.

i'd seen something like that from googling also, fonz... but would the bass suffer from being seated on the side like that? noobish ? i suppose, but just haven't seen that in practice, in person myself...
also, how would you change a left rear tail light?

i found the pics i was looking for. this one chick sent them to me wen i asked about her setup. I am gonna do the same thing only i want my box more angled so that it will be exactly flush with the back seat and the subs will angle a bit up as well. so they just cut the box to fit over that metal bar in the trunk

fonz...
hard to tell from that 2nd picture, but is there actually a slice cut out of the box to accomodate the plastic well, or is the well itself just filled? if it's the latter, doesn't the edge hang off?

yeah the pics conufsed me too but i think they did cut a chunk outta the box so it can fit over the bar but as you can see the front part doesnt touch all the way to the floor. maybe they left space so it doesnt pin the carpet under there? and as for the back i cant really tell what they did either because it kinda looks like the back isnt touch the floor also. maybe they nailed something under the box that is making up for the distance that it looks like its hanging. well wen i have mine done ill make sure that mine touches all the way to the floor on the rear and the front ill also leave a gap for the carpet but not as much as this person did.

Here is mine You can take out the spare tire, and this hides and protects everything. The bass is great(that is a 12), and the install has worked perfectly for me, matirials for this setup were very cheap, as most of it is only 1/8 mdf which is like 4 bucks a sheet.
