Im in sydney and been looking at this site for a bit now. Getting very jealous of all the GT's that are on here with tubros i have a 2001sx optioned up to a zx, anyway not that it matters much.

I want to know how to find out what engine type i have. ie the model number of it and what bolt-on tubro (with front mount) i can get for it to run safely without doing too much modding. I remember reading a while ago in a Fast Fours magazine that a guy has ran 7pound safely through it with little mods. i would be wanting about 10pound.

Anyway any input is much appreciated.

ta!

btw its an aussie one not sure if that makes any difference

Look on the top of the engine plastics, if it says 'VVTL-i' it's a GTS (2zz engine), if it says 'VVT-i' its a GT (1zz engine)

you can turbo both.. you can put more boost into a stock GT. But I'd still rather have a GTS manual cause of the 6 speed gear box you can swop out the pistons for lower compression pistons and then boost the hell outta it. also you can get better gains on a turbo GTS in 1st stage. at 6psi you can get like 250hp while I think on a GT you can get maybe 210hp or so. The problem with the GTS is you have a very high 11.5 to 1 compression ratio that if boosted more than say 5 or 6psi on regular 91octane pump gas can cause detonation which is bad for your engine. you can go much higher in boost on a GT because it's only got an 8.5 to 1 ratio. but then until you get a turbo your still driving a GT with no lift and only 140 hp. c2gas and xs engineering make turbos for GTS's and blitz makes a supercharger. trd only makes a supercharger for the GT engine 1zz.
