My cold air intake is rather exposed to my front left tire. Do you think that if it rained hard enough, that the tire could fling enough water forward on a 10-hour trip to hydrolock my car? The part to fix this potential hazard is waiting for me at home...

there was a test Steven said that they shot an intake with a hose and it was fine... it can have water sprayed on it from a tire...idk, but i think you may be fine.

the filter has to be completeley submerged in water (think of a straw in a cup) to cause damage. if you are concerned about the possiblitly of hydrolock then utilize a splash guard/heat shield. there's also some threads about making a splash guard out of "signs" (not sure what to make of that). another thread advised you can even get a k&n element cover you can use in the rainy season. and, if you have the 2nd gen aem, you can always knock off a few hp and install the air bypass valve.

put on one of those bypass valves or a K&N Drycharger over your filter if you want to be extra cautious.

to be on the absolute safest side get the bypass valve and the heat shield.

your filter should be just fine without anything, but if you are worried about it then a heat shield should do the trick (and may help your power at the same time)

i am getting the blitz(Urethane) soon ...my question is(maybe you can answer this Trojan USMC) can't i just put back the stock inner fender lining(behind the stock bumper) that is covering the intake/filter when i get my blitz or is it not going to fit on the blitz front???

Since I have a first gen AEM cai, does that mean i cant get a bypass valve for mine(is it gen 2 only)? The mechanic at the Toyota dealership said he has seen quite a few celicas with cai come in and need fixed. I dont know if thats from rain coming off the tire, or if these dumbasses are driving through big puddles.

Oh, it was still on there, there just wasn't anywhere on the bumper for it to connect. So it just hung there. Which was fine, till I hit high winds on the interstate. The tires caught and ripped the lining right off...

ok i have much experence here! but my cai was exposed just like urs and guess what boom blown engine and 4g's later new engine droped in but still haven't put my intake back on yet so heres what you need to do get ur inner fender put back on or take off ur intake or just wait till if sucks enough water up oh and screw what you seen with the hose and water cause i thought the guy was sprayin it at the filter when idiling not 2,3,4,5,or 6+ grand rpms so theres a big difference ofcourse the engine won't suck any water at idle ... but if you guys want to tell me hydrolockin doesn't happen then you guys should talk to my machnic and he'll tell you that there was over a half of gallon in my intake manifold! it didn't just appear there i was from my cai sorry but its true and maybe the splash guard might help but save urself the worries and get the innerfender sorry to rant but its not cheap to have a new engine put back in i could have had turbo right now but nope had to put new engine back in my gts

Looks cool though + air would be a lot cooler down there also. they say lil dirt is good but if its caked on then yes it will restrict ur air flow and u'd notice a difference
