I hate how parents jump to conclusions... Some guy backed into me in my old BMW and screwed up everything and I got car taken away because they thought I was too close... I was 7 feet away!

Unless you were goin in reverse, its the other guys fault. But it may be that your braking too fast. still, tell your parents to chill out, the other guys insurance will take care of it.

WTF...how can your mom possibly be upset at you for being rear ended. i was rear ended a few months ago and my parents didn't even care, they knew it wasn't my fault so they didn't get on my case about it.
wait until your mom gets into one and ask her if it was her fault

A week ago today I SAW my sister in her Christmas Present (White 04 Celica GT) get rear ended by a chick that didn't even have insurance! I was going to chew her out but I saw her little girl in the back. It messed up the celica's bumper & exhaust, It toatled that cavaler looking POS that hit her! My sis had 1500 miles on her car. Her rage was intoxicating!

Gotta love irrational parents. They always think they are right and they can be even more ignorant than most people in general. Shes probably pissed off about something in her life and needs a place to vent. Call her out on her irrationality. If you had rear ended 2 people then... However from the information given your mom has a problem dealing with rationality and seems like a control freak. Typical woman if you ask me. Ask your mom what you should do to avoid getting hit. I'de take her mind state and say im sorry i stop in front of ignorant people. From now on i will rear end the person in front of me in order to try to avoid getting rear ended. Usually when you start getting irrational with them it really pisses them off since they realize you are making fun of their irrational point of view.

Can you not make a topic with FUCK in the title? it sux for us peeps at work. k, thx btw - rear ends are not always the other person's fault, especially if the person getting rear ended interrupted the flow of traffic. But for the most part, its not their fault.

If your mom is not paying for your car, then don't give up the keys I know if my mom threatened to take my keys, I'd give 'em to her and say, "Sure! And since the car's in your name, you can take over payments, too!" That'd get my keys back in a hurry.

That bites. My stepdaughter's car got rear-ended and totaled while she was stopped at a red light. I couldn't imagine blaming her though. Sorry to hear about the accident. Just try to talk some sense into your mom; make sure she understands the other person got a ticket, and not you. Or ask her if she were stopped at a light and someone rear-ended her, would she believe she was at fault?

Eh my parents do the same god damn thing, what I do is make sure a friend has an extra set of your car keys, and still take your car out. I know if defying them but shit happens you need to get around.

sorry that you got rear ended and while that's obviously another persons fault...i will say that rear end accidents can be avoided 90% of the time. you've only been driving 3 months..so whether you think so or not you're not the best driver in the world..or even close to it.
i think you need to take a defensive driving course. one thing to remember is that don't follow the person in FRONT of you too closely..this avoids rear end accidents from BEHIND you. what this means is that you have more time to stop..which allows the person behind you to adjust better as well.
some rear ends can't be avoided..but most of them can. like i said..take a defensive driving course.
and you do know that insurance can drop you if you get in a few accidents even if its 100% someone else's fault, right?

Sorry to hear about the situation. I bet it sucks really bad to not have your parents trust you and to act irrational as well. I usually leave some space ahead of me to let off the brakes and roll forward a little bit if I think someone is coming in too fast; the rear lights changing from on to off usually catches their attention, but sometimes they're completely oblivious to the situation which makes it unavoidable.
Another thing I've noticed is people who decelerate by downshifting (I have recently) cause people behind you to slam on their brakes since they are expecting your taillights to come on when you are slowing down; so I went back to using my brakes and just pushing my clutch in when I'm almost to a stop.
As for Speed4's comments, I'm not sure why he thinks you need to take a defensive driving course; you said you were stopped at a red light both times so it was the other person's fault.
