i have a 2000 GTS auto and it has a nice high pitch almost squeal when it idles. it usually occurs after its rains. I had it fixed while under warranty at the dealership. They said it was the belt tensioner. Well it is 2 years later and acting up again...no warranty now. I believe I saw a post about this a long while ago but i couldn't find it again. Can someone direct me to this and if not is there a good fix for this problem? Thanks guys I appreciate your input.

wow. I was just thinking the same thing today...weird. I'm not sure if there is a recall on the tensioner. I think someone mentioned that they always fix the tensioner when it goes out for free, but I don't see why they would do that. Just gotta call the dealer, or go buy one. I am calling the dealer tomorrow. Just thought I would throw this out there.

I checked with the dealer and they won't repair b\c its out of warranty but let me know what they tell you. WD40 works but very very short-term fix and gets old spraying it constantly. Thanks for the input though.

Switch the belt first to a goodyear gatorback and see if that fixes the squeeling.

There are those spray fixes, and a new belt may fix it. It is pretty common for celica tensioners to act up, more common on corrollas. A new tensioner from the dealer is 175 (quoted today) and 355 for them to do it (also quoted today). So, pick your choice of what you want to do. Hope this helps.

I've had mine replaced three times and the tensioner still squeels. It's really annoying and I am getting real sick of it. Maybe the fourth time I replace it this spring/summer will be the lucky one that works right.
