Celica Forums General Discussion General So whats up with this whole shift thing?

So Im new to having to shift and I was wondering if it is bad to shift from 2nd to 4th or 5th to save on gas or should I just shift 1 2 3 4 5.

no you can skip gears... just when you're shifting down... don't skip too many...

not bad at all, that is if you are driving at the appropriate revs. if you try to shift into 5th at like 2000 revs in 2nd, it's not a good idea. i do 1-2-5 shifts a lot when i accelerate quickly. although i find it more fun to go through all the gears. hey, that's why i got a manual.

y would you want to skip a gear?? you lose power from it anyway if you go from 2 to 5 that is...no fun skipping around..plus i dun think it's gonna save gas if any..

sometimes it's easier and more practical to just skip gears... i don't even remember whether i normally do it or not... haha... it's been waaaaaaaaay too long since i've driven my celica

the tranny has synchros you wont have a problem

i do it all the time, i go from 1-3 2-4 3-5...no biggie if you know what your doin.

i skip gears all the time. no harm done to it if you are at a high enough rev that it wont stall or bogg
