ok so i just purchased this Pulley kit and I'm starting to find a lot of info on the web that in the long run it will end up ruining my engine since the kit does not come with a harmonic dampener. It is stated on the AEM webpage that the pulley kit will not cause any damage what so ever. Help me out guys...what do you think about this product? Any info or opinions needed.

this is just ur altenator pulley it is oem fit. the crank pulley (made by UR) is the pulley that will mess up ur engine not the aem pulley.

ur going to be safe with the pulley thumbsup

Yeah, you're getting the crank pulley and the altenator pulley (AEM Tru-power pulley) mixed up. It's the Crank pulley by Unorthodox Racing that screws everything up cause there's no harmonic dampener! The only problem you're gonna find with the altenator pulley is that your windows will be a little slower going up or down when the car's at idle.

I've always heard that the AEM pulley won't do anything positive for your car...if anything I've heard that you might actually lose power. I originally bought one but I sold it after what I heard. Good luck

Check out this article by Steve Dinan of Dinan BMW before you make a decision about pulleys:

http://www.atiperformanceproducts.com/products/dampers/damper_dinan.htm

"In addition to the crankshaft issue, other problems can result from slowing down the accessories below their designed speeds, particularly at idle. Slowing the alternator down can result in reduced charging of the battery, dimming of the lights, and computer malfunctions.

Slowing of the water pump and fan can result in warm running, while slowing of the power steering can cause stiff steering at idle and groaning noises. It is possible to implement design corrections and avoid these scenarios, but this would require additional components and/or software.

Our motto at Dinan is "Performance without sacrifice" We feel our customers expect ultra high performance along with the legendary comfort and reliability of a standard BMW."

i dont know i have heard a lot of good reviews from people who have the alt pulley only and nothing really bad or good to say i know better acceleration and slower windows going up, so maybe when getting this make sure to have an optima battery for extra power as well

this article seems very convincing. although it is an article for BMW...correct me if im wrong...but isnt the celica set up and the BMW set up for the pulley? Meaning that this would void anything stated since it is for a BMW and not a celica??? i don't know, help me out once again.

Yeah that's it; nothing in that article has anything to do with any other engines besides those found in BMWs.

Your logic seems sound to me, you should do just fine with those pulleys. thumbsup

I had one, left it off after my alternator took a shit on me at 65,000 miles. I had it on for about 40,000 of them. The only thing I noticed with it was slightly better throttle response, that's it. Not really worth it, you have to use off sized belts, which always ended up squeeking.

i had the pulley kit on my civic which replaced both alternator and power steering. I noticed throttle response was better but with my sounds and all the electrical i was running, my battery seemed to crap out fast. Also everything electrical seemed dimmer.

But then again, that was for a civic.

"I have the AEM ALT. Pulley and have never had anything bad happen, only thing i noticed was better throttle response."

I'll agree to this, I've had my AEM pulley on my GTS for almost 2years and no problems. The only things i have noticed is sitting at idle with the a/c or the heater on; things slow down a bit. If you do the ground cable upgrades that takes up for the slack. Its cheap easy horsepower. I looked into the UR pulley set but once I saw there wasn't a harmonic balancer used, I quickly shot that idea down. Something else I really noticed is that when I had the a/c on the car would be real sluggish and want to ping when under acceleration. Since i changed the pulleys I don't get this any more. I can't really say just one underdrive pulley is going to make up for the load the a/c compressor puts on the motor but, it seems to work.

My headlights dim pretty bad when I turn my system up, even with a 1 farad capacitor. My amp hit 510 watts on it's bench test. The amount of current that your amp draws has a lot to do with this, though. If you buy a digital amp, they require less current to produce the same amount, if not more power. Good luck.

thats cool so it gives small performance for a cheap price but you have to be careful of how much watts the car is running

i think that much power needs to keep a strong alternator, when i talked to the guy at the company they said to safely use this dont go above 600 watts so you have 400 more i dont think it would be a good idea to have one of these with that much power being ran even with a optima and ground kit but if you are going to do it make sure you run a cap too
