Got in the garage this morning and started her up, runs for about 2 seconds then dies. Try again...this time maybe 5 seconds, a loud clunk noise and then it dies immediately...for good. Lucky...you might have some insight on this..plz

Does it click repeatedly after it dies? If so, dead battery.

Did you suck in water through your CAI?
Do you have Iridium plugs or Bosch+4?

Does your exhaust smell excessively of gas?

does it crank or just nothing... if you can get it to crank, just run a compression test...

I had a similar thing happen to me back in 2001 but it was under high revs while racing umm driving tongue Turns out that the maf took a dump and told the ecu to go full rich which killed the motor.

This is why I asked about the gas smell because while I sat waiting for the tow truck my car did the same thing, it would kick over for a second and then die with a clunk and it smelled of gasoline.

think he's saying somehow the maf is F'ed up and your flooding your engine with too much gas and not enough air. replace the maf? and possibly the cat converter now would be the solution? mafs are expencive couple hundred at least and so are cat converters..

Eman its running ok right? I assume it is and in that case I'd check your air filter to make sure its not clogged up. Thats what the maf does it meters the fuel to air ratio that goes into your throttle body and if the air is having a hard time getting through then the maf cant compensate enough with the fuel. So yeah your prolly burning rich.

1) you better have iridium plugs. they come stock like that for a reason.

2) did ou suck up water?

3) sounds like thrown rod bearing or something to that affect.

4) a bad or missing cat will cause the engine to run super rich like that as well.

It was running fine yesterday, today i turn it on to goto work and it turns over, runs for a sec dies, same thing over and over if i kept restarting it, if i pressed the gas and rev it up it stayed alive, but then as soon as i let off gas it dies instantly. It doesnt sound like normal, theres like no exhaust noise, just intake

now that i smell it, it does reak of gas. I removed the filter to make sure it was getting enough air, that didnt help. I clean the MAF last week, should i do it again? I can't get it to toyota to fix it since it wont start, and I don't wanna pay for towing.

If it were a rotary engine I know exactly what to tell you... but it does sound like your engine's flooded with gas... this is really doubtful but go look up ways to fix the rx-7 after it floods and maybe try them, there are 2 or 3 ways... it's a long shot since the engines are totally different but who knows... one has nothing to do with the engine is has to do with the plugs or something... maybe worth a shot? I'm sure the guys on here will tell you what your chances with that idea are.

yeah you might wanna change the spark plugs and maybe clean the maf again and check your air filter and it doesn't hurt to reset the ECU so the car can reconfigure itself.
