Take any cold air intake not really quibbing about brand names . But just any cold air intake that goes below your right headlight in front of your tire . And take a short ram air intake inside your engine compartment . Which produces the most Horse power ?

But on a lighter note,

CAI, you risk hydrolock, but unless your careful, shouldnt be a prob, i had it for 2 years, and never a prob.

CAI, colder air, denser, more O2,means more burn, more HP!!!

And when i say colder, i dont mean that your gonna get -2 temp from the air, but a little cooler then what a SRI would give you!

all this talk of hydrolock leans me toward a sri when it comes the time to buy one.

But on another note, wouldn't like an aem by-pass filter do the job? Or do you think that eventually it'll not do its job?

AEM with by-pass = , i think you lose a littlebit of HP with it, but the bypass itself will work though and serve its purpse, but thats up to you to get it or not!! Like i said though, i dont worry about it to much, i travel alot, between a lot of rainy cities and been in rain alot, never a prob, just dont be stupid trying to drive through puddles. I made it a point to avoid them when i first got it on, now its like second nature to avoid them, i dont try not to go through them, i just dont!!

Here is what i know from others in a few words: (it might sound a little DuH!!!)

-CAI gives more horsepower than ur normal air filter at high revs (5000 rpm and up)

-Short ram gives more Hp than ur normal air filter at low revs

yes, a SRI can give more HP at lower revs, but so can a CAI, look at the difference between the AEM and INJEN, AEM is know to have more lower end power, but somewhat lacks in the top end, INJEN, is completely the other way around, it all has to do with the shape and size of the CAI, and how fast the flow is the the TB at each RPM. All that affects the whole RPM Powerband!

There are also reports of pieces of styrofoam from the bypass breaking loose and getting inside the engine. Definitely not a good thing. Just be smart about where/how you drive in the rain.

damn, another reason why that bypass is no good, good info!

Not to mention that the intake piping isn't long enough on our cars for it to work. So you get the all the risks and no benefits. (except for that false sense of security) just my 2 cents

From what I've (extensively) read, you won't hydrolock unless you submerge the CAI filter and suck up water. It takes more than a splash to hydrolock a motor! I own a boat and have sucked up more water than a CAI would going through a puddle.
