So I'm taking my girl home at 3:00 am.. nobody on the road but this Black Chevy
Avalanche..
I pull up behind him at a red light. I guess he thought he didn't hit the sensors to make the light turn green, so he puts it in reverse, and slams on the gas. Nailed me, and the trailor hitch put a damn hole in my front fender (Stock).
The kid apologizes, says "i'm sorry man, I didn't see you. Here, take my number down, and my name"
So he tells me his name is Fred and takes his time telling me his number. I figured he was lying, so I ask him for i.d.. He tells me he left it at home, so I start taking his plate number down..
The last 3 plate marks were like KX2 or something.. so he goes.. "the last 3 is k62". So I'm like "No, it's not, its x.." And he's standing in front of his plate, trying to hide it from me, lol..
So, after I do that, he confesses. Says 'look, man, this is my dad's car, and the plate isn't legit.. My name is mike, and this is my real number, look, call it."
So i call it and his phone rings.. He tells me to delete the plate number because he's afraid I'll run it. I told him that nothing will happen as long as he replaces the damaged fender and if he doesn't answer the phone, I'm running the plate. He said ' i swear, i'll pay it, just delete that.." So after arguing over and over, he accepts that theres no way in hell I'm deleting his plate number from my phone. So he tells me to call him tomorrow and let him know the cheapest quote he can find..

Kid tried to screw me over. What would you do if you were in my situation?

ask and write down in license ID number, his policy number and from wut insurance company, his name, and his license plate number. call your insurance and open a claim. tell your insurance person that you might want to settle this privatley. try to settle this with cash, and if they do not want to pay, then leave it to the insurance.

doesn't sound like a very responsible kid, make sure to have a nice talk with his parents so you can be sure to get reimbursed. I wouldn't deal with that kid at all.

i would have gotten the VIN.

name, plate, phone number are all questionable but the vin of the car truly identifies the vehicle.

what ever happened to traditional exchange of driver's license, registration, and insurance info? got your cell on you but didn't call the police for an accident report?

Well, it sounds like this kid will pay some money to keep this between me and him, and not letting daddy find out.:)
Any ideas?

Don't try to screw the kid over right away. He was in a panic and was stupid... if he's willing to take care of it, just get it fixed. If you try to get a high quote or pull something else, it could get messy.

Think about this: it's your word against his in terms of who hit who. The damage to your car is in the front, damage to his is in the back. What was more likely... he backed into your on the street, or you rear-ended him? Don't give him reason to try turning this thing around.

Go find a good shop (dealer if you can), get a quote... show it to him, and try to get the money.

The same thing happoned to me but i was in a parking lot. The woman had a suspended driver's license, no insurance, and a warrant out on her. After she told me she didn't have insurance I figured she was not responsable enough to make it right. she was begging me not to call the police. what did I do? I call the 5-O on her ass! I now have DOCUMENTATION!!! of the event! you need to find that avelance NOW and take pictures of the 1. PAINT THAT TRANSFERED & 2. THE VIN ON THAT VEHICAL. Also goto the police station and file a report. If you goto court! You need evidence!! C.Y.A.

also go back to the intersection and take a picture of some parts on the ground !!

Don't take any chances! and good luck! thumbsup

yeah i would run the plates and tell the police. it's a law around here that if the damage is more than 500 i think, you have to file an accident report. if he doesn't have insurance or good plates, he doesn't deserve to be driving. we all have to follow the law, why should he be any different. i know that nobody is perfect, and everyone breaks the law sometimes, but this is avoidable. i say get that guy off the streets, he obviously does not belong there.

Well, I would have just called the police right away. Now that he's gotten away without the police being present, you can expect his story to change considerably away from the truth.

what did the quote include? was in fender, paint, and install? if not, that's what you should have gotten. if so, then good he paid you. at least he kept his word. consider yourself lucky that he did pay you.

i'd get his VIN and his plates ran, screw that [censored] for hitting your car. With the settlement money you'll have enough to buy another Celica.
