Today, I went ouside to do my once a week start up, actually, I pretty much start it every other day. Well, today, my car wont start. When I turn the key all it does is click. Everything still works escept my radio. What is it. Is it just my battery? I hope it aint nothing mager. Anyone else that stored there vehicle for the winter have this too????? I dont think it is my battery because last time it died my windows and my auto door lock did not work. They work now. By the way my check enjine light, battery light, and my oil lights are on when I turn the key. Help me...

I would say the battery the first thing. See if you can get a jump on that. It should start.

No it doesnt. That is what I thought at first too, but a jump wont even push it to start, it just goes frownclickclickclick

you check the "cells" in your battery? maybe you need to add water or? you just got a dead cell..

Also you check all fluid levels oh, and it doesnt hurt to check your fuses to make sure none of them are fried confused

I dont have anything to check it with. I also bought the battery less than a year ago. Do you think it will die that quick? frown frown

yes you can still check the cells. A cell is what a bettery has for it work and charge properly. The battery should have an indicator on it like how the stock battery did. YOu may need to add some water to the battery. All you gotta do is pop off the top part of the battery and you can see the water levels of each cell.

I hope not. Wel my battery dont have that cellmeter thingy you were talking about. It is a Duralast gold battery. I opened the top the fluids are almost to the top. Normal????

Check the terminals for corrosion. Take a bit of sandpaper and wipe the inside of the battery terminal connectors and the outside of the battery posts. I've had various cars not start for battery post corrosion when they've been sitting around awhile.

No corrosion. I am going to try and charge the battery for a little bit. Ill see how that works. Thanks for all the help guys. thumbsup

the battery is on the charger and the meter is right in the middle. Would that be the problem?

I thought it was the battery at first too. But then I noticed everything was working that got me thinking maybe it was something else. But when it is charged, then I will find out for sure if it is the battery. thanks thumbsup thumbsup

if it clicks it could also be your selenoid thumbsup my thing today was just my battery i charged it its wrking fine. Also there is a fuse/relay that controls ignition you might want to check

even if everything else is working that doesn't mean your battery has enough juice to start your car... so it could be your battery either way...

i haven't went up and started my car in months... my dad insists you don't need to... i know you guys say you do but he's been storing cars for 50 years so i just go with him... i don't know if he's started it or not... it's in his garage... and i never go up there

The gauge that you were referring to is an indication of how much work the charger is having to do to get it back up to 12-13 volts.

When the car is running, check the voltage of the battery. It should be between 13-16 Volts DC. If it is, that will tell you that your alternator is working. The alternator uses this elevated voltage level to keep the battery charge topped off. (Lead Acid batteries are charged by voltage and Nicads are charged by amperage)

If you decided to get your battery checked at a parts store, be sure to fully charge it!!!!! If not, the tester will kill a weak battery.

Most batteries go "dead" over time due to tiny flakes that come from the plates in the cells. When the level of debris reaches the bottom of the plates, it causes the plates in that cell to short!

Long life batteries have deeper cavities for this debris to collect in!

One last thing! Only add water to a fully charged battery! I worked in a battery shop for Raytheon Aircraft, and added water to the batteries before they charged. a couple of hours later I had a mess on my hands when they overflowed!

no offense to your dad but it's a good idea to start the car every now and again. New cars have a lot more electronics in it that are slowly draining battery in order to keep all the information in the computers memory. If you don't start it you aren't going to HURT anything. But it makes starting the car up again a lot easier

I HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO ME. ONE DAY IT JUST WENT DEAD. I JUMPED IT AND THAT NIGHT THE SAME THING HAPPENED. JUST LIKE YOU SAID EVERYTHING WORKED BUT IT DIDN'T START. I THOUGHT CELLS AND CORROSION, BUT IT TURNED OUT TO BE JUST A BAD CONNECTION. ALL I DID WAS TIGHTEN THE CLAMPS TO THE BATTERY TERMINALS AND IT CRANKED RIGHT UP. thumbsup
