I want to switch over to full synthetic oil... i know its more expensive and everything else, but VW recommends it and i think i should get the engine a little cleaner... Now i heard that after 50,000 the seals start to crack and the other oil actually keeps the seals clogged so they don't leak.. is this true or can i switch over to full synthetic next oil change?

full synthetic is always the best oil to use on fresh motors (alraedy broken in)especially high reving engines.

if you change your oil frequently and keep up on maintenence you wont have those problems for a loooooong time.

Oil is oil. As long as you drive it you should be fine. Mobile One, fully syn. etc are expensive and your engines don't need them. Just remember to change it and you will be fine. Corvettes, Porches etc. need syn. oil.

Mobil 1 full synthetic cost $20 for 5gal..at Wal-mart..add a filter and DIY and ur total is still below 30bucks..if you can't spend 30bucks on ur car then you should be driving it..like the saying goes "you get what you pay for"...

y not just have ur shop use those BKK stuff to do a complete clean of ur engine, then put full synthetic oil in ur car..

Oil is oil. Yes syn. is better but you don't need it. Your car is just fine with regular oil. Trust me. It will be fine.

what if you have over75000 miles should you go for higher mileage oil

You should at least use half syn. 5w30 or 10w30 (summer). I use Valvoline Synpower 5W30 (Yes its full synthetic). Never go for regular oil. THis is for old cars (<1990. With synthetic oil you can drive longer before changing the oil and in a new engine (<50.000 km!!!!)its not a problem with leaks. Old engines are, and old synthetic oils are. If you change to Synthetics, don't drive to long on this oilchange the first time. The synthetic oil cleans the engine better. After The second change you can drive longer on synthetic oil

aha your driving a VW. In Holland al VW drives on FUll synthetic oil with a changing intervals of 50.000 km!!. Its Special longlife oil, so synthetic should be no problem for you

Yeah, high perfomance synthetics will make old engines leak like crazy, it happened to me, my car had 128,000 miles on it when I got it, and I changed the oil to castrol synhetic, and it was fine ( could not feel any difference), then I switched to mobil 1, and it was fine (felt a little difference), then I switched to royal purple, and it felt nice but it started to dump oil like crazy 1 day after I changed it, and I did not notice it until my oil light came on (after running like crazy for 80 miles @ 90 mph),next day I checked my car and it had no oil in it, ended up changing all the seals. So maybe get a synthitic blend to play it safe.:)

On my escort, I ran 5w30 mobil 1 synthetic, it was great.

Of course, I eventually learned that the motor LOVED thin oil. I began cutting the oil with a quart of 0w30 mobil 1 synthetic on each oil change (4 quarts of 5w30 and one quart of 0w30 seemed to work best) It ran sooo smooth and quiet, and regular oil changes revealed no added wear. it was an aluminum engine as well.

You should change your filter at every oil change, true, some filters are meant to be run past 3K miles, but it's a small investment to make for engine longevity.

I've been running 5w30 dinosaur juice in my 2ZZ, starting next oil change, I will be switching over to synthetic, since it's all loosened up now. I would cut the oil on this car as well, but I'm not sure how the engine will take it, considering I push the car hard occasionally; I'd rather sacrifice flow for some added protection anyways.

Natural oil and synthetic can be switched out with no ill-effects. the bit about not switching because it'll hurt your engine is a myth. both petroleum-based and synthetic oil are made to do the same thing; lubricate moving parts. some synthetics actually do the better job.

blends (half synthetic/half petroleum) are rather new, I don't think they'll hurt anything, but they aren't that bennificial either. You might as well go full synthetic rather than buy half and half to save a couple bucks, but that's just my opinion.

I prefer Mobil 1 synthetic. Other brands are pretty good, but past experience and others opinions sesm to confirm this. If you go with a natural oil, you can't do better then castrol, it's the shiznit! and we use it in everything, from bikes to the streetrods in my bro's garage. They add castor oil to their formulations, and this stuff is great for reducing friction and wear. Some dedicated race cars just run straight castor oil exclusively, so it's not just hype. Hands down, Castrol is awesome if you want to run au-natural.

I just made the switch from regular oil to full synthetic on friday. I have 62 thousand miles on my engine. My engine does run a bit smooter and there aren't any leaks. DIY < $30.00. Still cheaper than the jiffey lube.

i switched to redline synthetic at 85,000 then to mobil 1 at 93000. i could def tell a difference with the redline and mobile. no leaks either

full synth switch is ok as long as you use mobil one. I would recommend changing the oil filter every 1,000 miles or so that the "gunk" that gets clogged in your engine flushes out. The problem is that your oil filter has high clogging potential because of all the shit cleaning out of your engine.

it's a great choice, go for it. thumbsup

Would any one here have a Battery Hold Down Bracket Clamp for a 93 Celica or kno of a source have-not had any success in finding one. Also in the market for the Insulation under Hood 93 Celica 2.2 thanks
