Hey everyone, I stumbled upon a good deal for a car, unfortunately it's not a Celica, but an Integra GS and it is definitely within our budget after tax, title, & license. If this doesn't go through, I still have a Celica standing by to look at.
In the papers I saw a 2001 Integra GS, 2dr, 5spd, all power, sunroof, spoiler, rims & new tires, and 17,000 miles. All for $7,199. The reason why it's low priced is because it was previously stolen and recovered. The owner says the engine, tranny, and body condition are all in excellent shape.
So I ran it by my dad and he says to get the VIN # and run a carfax check and have a mechanic take a look at it.
I have 2 questions. 1. What do you all think? Too good to be true? Good deal? or otherwise? 2. How exactly does a Theft title work? Does it just mean that it was stolen and returned to the owner? Do I have to check to make sure it's not still hot? I don't want to buy this car and end up having the "true" owner come and take it away or something of the like.

I would definitely jump on it if it is in good condition. $7,199 is an awesome price for an '01 GS. My '01 GS was around $13,000.

True, theft damage MIGHT not be a big deal, but if it was taken joyriding, it could have been pretty beat up. Especially look for chassis damage; I'd definitely take it to a shop and be sure to get under the car and have a good look. Could be a good deal, but could also be pretty messed up.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. That's why we'll be taking it to an Acura Dealership to get it checked out.

It's been a long weekend everyone. I'll give you the scoop on what happened on the Integra above. My friend and I went to go look at it last Friday. We got there and it had a huge muffler on it, you could see spots of red paint underneath the silver paint, meaning the bumpers and side panels were damaged/stolen and replaced from a red Integra. The gauge cluster was from an automatic Integra b/c it had electrical tape over the vertical part that displays Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, etc. Engine bay was really clean but when the car was running, my friend removed the oil cap and little flecks of oil landed on our face. He said this is called "blow-by" meaning the rings around the pistons are deteriorating which lets part of the combustion in the cylinder go down into the oil pan and forces the oil upward. Not good. I got the VIN and we bolted out of there as fast as we could. Paper said 2001 Integra GS, 17k miles. Carfax says 1999 Integra LS, 51k miles (in year 2002, last reported mileage), and has a Salvage AND Junk title meaning it can never be retitled again. Last night my friend that went w/ me on friday has a friend who has a 96 Integra GS-R and was supposed to call us today about it, but he said he was rear ended a couple months ago and didn't feel like selling it. This week just isn't my week. I test drove a 97 Civic EX and 96 Prelude SI yesterday. The Prelude is freaking awesome, I've always wanted that model since I was 15, but the trunk space was lacking for my college needs. The 97 Civic was... okay, I guess. I just didn't feel right driving it. I felt so comfortable in the Celica when I first test drove it. So I decided to wait until I could find a good deal on a Celica because I would much rather have that than "settle" for a Civic. So much for a new car during Spring Break. There were about 3 or 4 choices 3-4 weeks ago, but all the Celicas in my price range are now gone. Sorry for the long post. < /rant >

There are soooo many freaking theft title Integras on the SF Craigslist that it is pretty scary. Isn't the Integra one of the highest stolen cars?

I think it was the 8th most stolen car at one time. sorry things didn't work out for ya. please don't get a civic there is already to many civics in the world when people have civics it changes them I'm not getting a Civic, that's why I've decided to wait for a Celica or Integra. I think you're right on the changing part though. hehehe
