So every week I drive the PA turnpike from mid county to the end (past Scranton) usually averaging 90 the whole way sometimes getting it up to 120 (did that last night) now my tac doesn't get above 5 and 1/2 so I havent redlined it yet. will it hurt my car driving that fast (avg 90) for long periods of time?

I do it all the time! I commute 80 miles one way. As long as you stay on top of preventative maintenance you will be fine, but if you skimp on it you'll pay later! Put a piece of screen (like on a screen door) on the front of your radiator so you will keep the radiator from getting clogged. Also check your tire pressure twice a week. A low tire will get hot and will separate at high speeds. Finaly keep all the windows spotless. this is not only a safty hazzard, but you can see the trooper's eyes bug out when you blaze by!

That's weird...I do 90 daily for about 15 mins only but still...and I've driven 140 for 15 mins just once and car has never had a problem My baby loves me hehe

It is fine. Like the others said just keep up with the maint stuff. Modern day cars are fine at high speed for long periods of time. It is actually much more harmful to your engine to drive it too hard whilst it is still cold or drive at high speed then turn the engine off very quickly afterwards. Just use your common sense and it will be fine, the only down side is that bits will wear out more quickly. Not sure if it is the same where you are but here in England Toyota suggests different service intervals depending on how you drive and use your car.

its like masterbating..if you do it for a long time at a high speed you'll get a indian burn...what that has to do with your question? i dunno..i thought it might help to add it though...

its actually benifical to your engine to go fast now and then ceans out the oil i do 80 on the way to work all the time and comin home
as fo tire pressures if tires are cold i'll usally go like 3-4 psi belove the max
jsut watch the tires if you notice weird tire wear then its a sign an over-inflated tire will wear more in the center of the tire and a under inflated tire will wear more on the sides
hey thats a 20 minute phone call "if i have seen farther it is by standing on the shoulders of giants" derek: do you know that non dairy cream is flamable Jennie: ...derek..what did you do

Driving faster wears out your engine faster. It is not beneifal to your engine at all. A GT or GTS was not designed to cruise at 80-90 mph. Their gearing in way too high and the poor little 4 cyl. just screams at about 4-5k. A good rule of them is that your high way crusing speed should bring you to about 1/2 the engine redline. GT about 3-3.5k will put you about 70-75 mph. GTS a little higher.
V8's with lower gears were built for the highway. Don't forget that a Celica is a commuter car. Sure it is fun to drive and the car doesn't get old but remember that it is still just a regular Toyota. Take care of it and it will last no problem.

You need screen with bigger holes than that, or else the radiator will be starved of some cooling air.

You are going to experience advanced wear, but nothing too severe.
One thing that many people have noted is increased tire wear at higher speeds. I've certainly noted this. 75% of my 30k miles have been at 80mph+, and I need new tires already.
I'm just a crosshair I'm just a shot away from you
