for some reason, whenever i go to put gas in my car, it takes FOREVER...i dont know why but as soon as the gas starts going in, the pump will shut off and i have to keep releasing the handle and squeezing it to get the gas to go in...does anyone know what could be the problem? i'm tired of waiting 30 mins to fill my tank angry

If I remember correctly there was a Toyota recall for problems with the early Celica gas tanks. I'll try to find the link.

I've had this happen a few times, especially with pumps that are 'high output'.

I find if I remove the nozzle just a couple inches outward, the problem is rectified. thumbsup

According to this link the recall was for 02 and 03, your profile says you have an 01, but definately get it checked out by a good mechanic, a faulty fuel system is not something you want to be riding around on, under the right circumstances it could get real ugly:

NHTSA Recall History
2002-03: Faulty fuel-tank check valves were installed on certain vehicles, resulting in possible fire. Dealer will inspect and replace all affected parts.

http://auto.consumerguide.com/Auto/Used/reviews/full/index.cfm/id/2402/act/usedcarreviewreliability/

Make: TOYOTA
Model: CELICA
Type: PASSENGER CAR
Year: 2002
Recall Number: 03V074000
Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE FUEL TANK CHECK VALVE, LOCATED IN THE FUEL TANK INLET PIPE, MAY BECOME SEPARATED FROM THE INLET PIPE AND FALL INTO THE FUEL TANK. IF THE CHECK VALVE FALLS INTO THE TANK, FUEL MAY SPILL FROM THE FUEL INLET PIPE WHEN THE FUEL PUMP AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS OFF DURING FUELING.
Consequence:
THIS CONDITION MAY RESULT A FIRE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPAIR THE FUEL TANK CHECK VALVE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN APRIL 4, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331.
Notes:
TOYOTA RECALL NO. SSC 30B. CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
