ok, so i found out today that my alternator is only putting out about 11.5 volts while under load. i think it is time to get a new one. if it weren't for my optima yellow top i doubt i could even get the car started. i found a replacement alternator for $250 from MSD CO. (express auto parts .com - part number 5110) that is a 160 amp peak output alternator. does anyone see a problem with using an alternator that has a peak output of 160 amps instead of the stock one (80 amp)? let me know

if you're not running a system you really dont NEED that much. but as far as charging goes your yellow top should be able to hold up. it's kind aover kill if your car is stock though.

i do have a system... its sorta small now, but will be expanded shortly. i know 160 amp is a little excessive but it is still cheaper than the stock one from the dealer. i shouldnt run into any problems with the other electronics on rectifier and or regulator should i?

Run one of those alternators with the AEM pulley, that way, your system will still charge good, and you'll get the performance benefits of underdriving ^_-
Those alternators are nice, they have a dovetail system on their case that allows you to attach the mounting brackets, so, one altenator will fit many cars; It will ship with the required hardware to bolt it up.
MSD makes nice alternators BTW.
