You have two problems, both are easy to fix. The noise you hear all the time is your belt, you need a new one, dealer can do this for you for around $100.
The shift problem is your shift linkage as eclipseturbogsx noted you need to lube up the "joints" of the linkage with white lith grease, very easy to do. Again as eclipseturbogsx said just have a friend shift in and out of 1st and 2nd so that one you see it and two you get access to both sides of it when you start to lube it.
