I bought a used GTS last week and only got one key and one wireless remote. My daughter said that since this remote is gray in color that it is not a Toyota remote. It doesn't say anything on the back except Auto-Mate

Is the Toyota remote "special?" What about the keys? Can I get duplicates easily?

Thanks
Len

if it doesnt have the toyota sign on the back then it could be an aftermarket system

I went back to the dealer I got my car from and they made me a spare key at no charge. So, that's my suggestion. As for the remote, is it just a keyless entry or an alarm? If it's just a keyless entry and you plan on putting an alarm on it yourself, I wouldn't worry about it b/c you'll get new remotes with the new system.

BTW Welcome the boards thumbsup

Manually unlock the door & try to start her up without pressing the button on the remote. If the siren doesn't go off then it just unlocks the doors. Also, open up the hood & look for a siren.

Thanks guys. I found out that the remote is for an aftermarket alarm system and replacements are available. ($$) I got replacement keys made at a local hardware store...$1.29ea

Yeah, remotes can be expensive. Before you get one though(if you haven't already), just try calling a few stereo/alarm shops around and see if they have any used remotes. Sometimes those places have some because they replace systems and the owner doesn't want the old system, so they end up with used systems & remotes. I got one for my old Saturn a couple of years ago that way.
