my brother was looking at some of the mods i was looking into doing (exjaust, rims, carbon fiber hood scoop, kam kit, etc...) and looked at me and said "dont be a ricer, man"...this isn't rice. i was just curious as to what the common agreement of rice was...any comments?

I have neons and I don't consider them to be "rice". They definitely weren't cheap either. I would, however, consider them to be rice if you don't install them correctly and the bulbs are showing| thats one thing I can't stand about neons. But other than that, they shouldn't be considered "rice" as long as it's done tastefully.

Some people say anything that doesnt add performance to your car is rice. Just mod your car how you like. I mean who really cares. A lot of the fun is making your car also look nice.

if its anything that doesnt add hp then all of us with systems are ricers..but a ricer is a person who has no knowledge of why parts need to be put on. they dont know what a real wing is suppose to do, hence, park bench wings..ricers are people who put a body kit on thier ride and dont paint it for months..you shouldnt get a kit unless you got the funds to get it painted right away or just dont put it on..and so fourth..basically, ricers are uneducated tuners...they lack common sense..its the person not the car..a 95 civic can whoop your ass if the right tuner modded it..but you usually see the high school kids who dont know shit..i was one of them..but i've gotten more educated on parts and whats worth getting and not...hell, we all have...knowledge is key!

Ricer= Making your car look/sound fast, but when in reality it is not. For example, just a muffler for the sound, tech wings, Big vinyle graphics, Electric superchargers, the thing that makes your car sound like a turbo, Poor qaulity installation (Ghetto installation) products.

Sounds to me like if you put anything aftermarket on yer car, yer up to being rice. I don't understand how an $800, wind tunnel tested wing like the VS EC-1 can be rice, given the above statements. How about a track tested, $675 APR GTC-200 or 300 wing? How can that be "park-bench?" Or "ghetto?" Again, taking into consideration the above statements, how can $3000 worth of Volk "RACING" wheels be rice? Especially if you plan to autoX. Different cars, different people. All just opinion, and this is mine.

See I don't get it. This dude that bought my gauge pod for my civic told me that my celica was rice and slow. Is it because I have a is300 tail light conversion made from all real is300 toyota parts? I was like wtf, you are driving a non-turbo civic. I had a turbo civic so idk what he was talking about. So what defines fast? I think 180 hp at the crank is pretty good for a 1.8

I'm talking about ghetto as in poor quality products that really doesn;t benefit the car at all except for make it look fast, sound fast, or just completely ugly. Like a car with bigass vinyle flames, or a car that has multiple colors like the body is red but the bumber is black or white and is hanging out with a tech wing they got at a local auto shop for 100 dollars. A muffler and not a whole exhaust system. Just picture a car you see on the streets that some teenage kid put together in very poor quality and cheap parts. THATS RICE. Some nice rims on a car to me is not considered rice, or a well put together body kit.

attracting attention to your car with loud paint jobs, altezzas, or park bench wings...when you don't have any other mods to back it up.

Because the "wing" just adds weight, and a car like the Celica doesn't really go fast enough to utulize something like that, especially for people who drag race their car on the street. Just like body kits, they are simply for looks which to some is rice.. but as it's been said rice is differant to every one.

For example, just a muffler for the sound if an exhaust was rice just because you liked the sound of it 95% of the members here would be ricers because most of us including me have or are thinking of getting the TRD, and TPR just because they like how it sounds. it's the exhaust that sound like lawnmowers or the ones that are as loud as an airplane thats RICE

I have TRD shoulder pad for the seat belt, and a good quality muffler..the muffler does make sound, but its realistic as in it doesnt sound fast if the car isnt going fast..if you know wat i mean..well, is there anything wrong with that?
When I find myself in a position like this, I ask myself what would General Motors do? And then I do the opposite!

AND ALSO I LOVE FRIED RICE!!! Yes there are things that you can do to improve the cosmetic of your car. i said earlier in one of my post, a nicely put together body kit that is not too extreme or out of this world, clear turn signals, nice pinstripes along the side. But again if you had a bad conditon car why would you put a body kit, rims, tech wing, and some graphics on it. It just makes it worse. Thats prety much rice right there. CHEAP QUALITY PRODUCTS THAT HAVE BEEN PUT ON "GHETTO-LY".

Rice is an attitude that manifests itself in poor, tasteless mods. It also usually manifests in actions too (trying to race someone, doing the ricer flyby and claiming a win, etc.).
Let's say that I and some other random Celica owner both buy the APR GT300 wing. But let's say he's a ricer and I'm not. So while he goes out trying someone worthy of challenging his "madd downforce" I'm busy adding a widebody kit, rims, coilovers, built the engine, put in a bunch of ICE and basically make a showcar (that I actually intend on showing).
