I have started to think about buying a new car this spring/summer.
First place I checked was Toyota. They cut back on the number of colors & options on the GTS & on top of that they jacked the price! I'm not a fan of the action (Tsunami) package. Checking out Accura, I can get a loaded RXS-S with 17" rims, front, side & rear skirts for about the same money. I'd love a 350Z, but not so sure I want to make those payments.
What else should I look at in about the price range of a GTS or an RSX? Ephasis on sporty looks, durability & decent performance.

I'm not much of a 350Z fan. I dunno, have a look at RX-8 and Imprezza. But I'd take an RSX over either of those myself.

I don't mind Subaru. Not really in love with the way they look & not really sold on all-wheel-drive in general. The STI at 300HP is almost as much as 350Z & I would rather have the Z, especially the new Anniversay edition. Its hot.
The regular WRX has only 227HP & weighs 3200 pounds. Its gonna get left by a GTS or an RSX-S pretty easy & its more money than both of them.
Conclusion: No to Subaru

the thing about the base rex is how it responds to mods compared to a celica. you get big gains, but then more things can go wrong with it. its all a balance. what about an s2000?

RSX-S 2,800 pounds 210HP = 13.3 POUNDS/HP GTS 2,500 pounds 180HP = 13.9 POUNDS/HP WRX (NON STI) 3,200 pounds & 227HP = 14.1 POUNDS/HP How will it hang a GTS or an RSX-S out to dry like a wet pussy? What ever that means? The numbers say otherwise. STI 3,300 pounds & 300HP = 11.0 POUNDS/HP 350Z (Anniversary) 3,300 pounds @ 300HP = 11.0 POUNDS/HP That's not going to be close at all? Besides, 350Z is hot, STI is BFUGLY.

Jason, not being a 350Z fan, and wondering why you originally included it on your list since the price is higher, makes me conclude the RSX-S is the best choice. I like them a lot myself, almost bought one instead of the Celica.

Sorry Jason but thats ricer math. There are countless other factors that you forgot to add such as torque, drivetrain, gearing, etc. The new 35th Aniversory Edition 350Z is also slower then the regular Z because the increased the horsepower but deducted major torque and added weight.

HP to weight ratio is ricer math? The Anniversary Edition is faster than the regular Z, not slower. The extended redline allows the engine to stay in the powerband from shift to shift. High RPM engines have higher HP & lower torque due to the mathematical equasion. A GTS is remarkably fast for the amount of torque it produces due to a high redline & its ability to stay in the powerband through the gears. A 350Z Anna produces 300HP without a turbo charger, unlike the Subaru.

No matter either way. The RSX-S is more the price range I want to spend. I'll have to take one for a test spin & see how it goes.
I love my Celica, but I think buying a new one (even if it was a GTS) would be a little anti-climatic. I also get the feeling the RSX would be a little more durable as far as the powertrain goes. The clutch & engine would probably take a little more of a beating.

Seems like a waste to me RSX is pretty damn similiar to Celica. With all that snow you get up there I'd be going sideways on the downhill, WRC style.

I dropped into my local Acura dealer Friday to take a peek at the Type-S. The one on the showroom floor was pearl white & man did it look hot with the leather interior. I think I have made up my mind. I will kick a few more tires first, but wow, what a nice car. http://www.acura.com/models/model_gallery_view.asp?module=rsx
