I am interested in getting a new set of rims for my 2002 GTS and want to find out what wheel weights are for rims i am intereted in. How can i find out about wheel weights without having to call each company up and ask. Also, what offset should i look for if i'm look for 17" by 7 to 8 inch wheel. I have also heard that my stock GTS rim weighs 19-23lbs. How much does it weigh?

Any help would be much appreciated.

since you want a light weight wheel and you're posting in the performance forum, i'm going to assume that you want new rims for performance purposes. if you get 17x7 or 17x8 then the wheel won't be that light, maybe you might shave off 3-5 lbs per wheel from stock but thats it. 15x7 would be better since there would be less rotational mass and smaller overall diameter, for acceleration. you'd probably be shaving off 8-10 lbs per wheel.

^^ what he said. 15"s arent very practical for daily driving though. for performance and looks you'll want to stay at 16" rims. by changing up in rim size even a lighter rim wont do much good cause you're moving the weight further from the center cause more rotational weight to be added. so you're losing any performance value you were lookin for.

SSR makes some really good ones. also if you're looking at a decent price, I like the rota subzero's. the 15" version like I have arent made anymore I think. but the 16"s should be easy to find.

I looked into that recently.

you can get the rota subzero's in 15x6.5" in flat black but they weigh 12 lbs unlike Lucky's which weigh 9.5 lbs. That's still the best for the price imo at $236 a pair which is all you need for racing. Now the SSR Type C's in 15x7" are a different story. They weigh about 9.5 lbs but they're about $300 a rim.

15's would be for drag racing of course, not autocross.

Thanks for the great info. From what everyone posted it seems that a 16 inch wheel is ideal for daily driving and power weight ratio. Although i am looking mostly to improve handling would a 16 inch rim still be the best size to run or would a 17 inch wheel be better despite the slight power loss? Also, is there any formula or calculation that could be run to account for a loss or increase in power by changing the rim size and weight?

the wider you spread the mass of the wheel (larger diameter) the harder it is to turn.

which is why 15 inch wheels make such a huge difference over 17's.

the weight also plays a factor in that 17's are heavier than 16's.

for pure road race you'd want some superlightweight(11-13lbs) 17x8's with 225's up front and 205-215's in the rears.

for a drag/road race set up like mine I use 16x7.5 ssr comps with 225's up front and 205's in the rears.

and i swap a set of borrowed 15 inch dr's for the strip when I can get some loaners.

larger the wheel = smaller the tire = less tire flex and squirm=better handling.

but = crappy drag racing traction.

you need a large sidwall to bunch up and rocket you out the hole. thin walled tires just can do that.
