Celica Forums General Discussion General cv joint noise maybe?

my cars been making a noise in turns (only when cold..1st few turns of the day)it makes a very similar..if not the same, noise when driving straight. mostly in lower rpm range, MOST noticable w/ the engine bogged down i.e. if i lazily take a corner in 3rd gear then gas the hell outta it to get back upto speed. i wouldnt call it a clicking, more like a dull metal on metal rattle. muffler man said the exhaust is pretty solid, and it dosent seem to change with the smoothness of the road. i got under the car for the 1st time today(its new) with the pass side jacked up, turn the axle and i can hear a slight grinding coming from a round metal "something" where the axle shaft goes into, what is that round part? btw--1990 gts and the cv boots dont show any obvious wear/rips.

So is the car a 1990 or is it new? CV joints can be bad even if the boot is in good shape but a grinding noise may be a brake wear indicator. how does your rotor and pads look? If the brake pad and rotor are good check to see if the pads are seated properly with "all" the retaining clips. That right there will cause a slight "clicking" noise.

id say you have a prob with the tranny. not the axle. yeah sometimes an axle will make that noise but if it does its all the time. its your tranny because when you first start your car your tranny fluid is cold and really think. so thats why your hearing the noise just few times right when you start it up.
