I do know that there are years to stay away from, just can't remember which. I'm a Toyota freak so you can guess my answer. If you decide to get the GSX and don't like it you can always fix up another GTS! You just need to ask yourself what are you going to do with the car, and which fits the bill best?
If I had you resorces I would build a racing mid 90's MR2!

come on guys lets be realistic...he isnt talkin about restoring the gsx to stock he is talkin about upgrades and a gsx is way better for that...my friend bought a junked gsx for 700 and 4 grand later he has a 12 sec car thats a 5th of what i paid for my stock gts and it cant compare in speed...personally i would keep the celica for its style and everyday driveability and buy the gsx too and make it fast...

The elcipse has way more potential as it is built to be turbocharged and has a lot more aftermarket support. The 2nd Gen(95-99) motors do suffer from crank walk, but if you going to fully build the motor then you don't really have to worry about it. IF you don't get the car can you see if they are willing to sell just the motor, I'm looking for a cheap motor to through into my dead 95 eclipse.

Get the GSX man and make it a sleeper. Get a different wing and take off the GSX sticker and everyone will think you're driving a GS, untill they hear the turbo spool of course.

mitsu's do suck but the gsx looks like it has some potential. the engine wouldn't last too long though. gsx is awd turbo you can't go wrong. they are pretty quick with minimal upgrades due to the turbo. a downpipe, bigger exhuast, boost controller, bov, bigger intercooler your in the around the 13s to low 14s. basically your spend about $1000-1500.
but too bad the car has been wrecked, if your pretty good at bodywork or got a hook up, go for it. other than that stick with your celi.

That GSX looks just like the one i racked up last year...maybe it's the same one! if you just want a racecar...buy the scrapped GSX and beef up the internals, slap a 20g on there and kill people. A stock GSX armed with ONLY a boost controller is capable of running 13's...though once you do you'll have to rebuild it. But a beefed up 4g63 with a 20g turbo and other little things and you'll have a 500hp killer. I didn't have the money to do all that. So stock vs. stock it's a tough call. I love the Celi WAY more in every other aspect except the fact that the gsx was turbo. Everyone loves turbo's...so it's tough to pass up. But all the problems they have... If you want a daily driven car I would not give up the celi.

if it really is a passion for you then go ahead and do it stock the car sucks but after modifications i guess it can be worthy, my point isnt that it'll be fats or slow, its just goint to take dedication and a lot ALOT of your money...if you dont mind, go for it.

you'd be lucky to get a hundred thousand miles out of it.I KNOW! i got 106k then the engine blew. the resale value sucks. you'll probably have a lot of problems with it being wrecked. if you want something fast then i'd go with an early 90's mr2 turbo. they're fast and with the td 3000 body kit and some c5 rims it will look like a ferrari. you'd be a lot better with a toyota period! just don't waste your time and money.

clubdsm.com is a good site for info. I used to go on there a lot, they got a lot of archived info on the cars and products and retailers. Its quite thorough and has a lot of knowlegible people running the site cause its been out for so much longer.
