I've had my 01 GTS for awhile now and it is now shutting off for no reason. I can feel it struggleing for awhile then it dies and all my dash lights come on. I gotta turn off the car and turn it back on while drifting at 65mph+. Since its an intermediate electrical problem and it happens randomly the local dealership was no help except to lift $500 outta my wallet. Has anyone had this problem before? How did you solve it? The car is all stock.

The fact that you say it struggles for a while and then dies and that you have to have the rpms up to start it leads me to think you have a bad Idle Air Control Valve.

Have you cleaned out your IACV?

I don't think your problem is electrical by they way you described it. If it was your battery or Alternator you would have different symptoms.

BTW, I have yet to find a Toyota dealer in Maryland worth a crap. All they seem to be able to do is oil changes and brake jobs.

I agree with the iacv. a dirty maf can cause things like that as well.

you I'd say IACV before MAF in this case. Clean both and you oughta be good to go.

Thanks for responding...I'll clean the IACV and the MAF. I'll post up the results.

I once had this trouble when I installed a funnel directly from the driver's side foglight hole to bring some colder air to my shortram intake, the funnel was almost connected to the shortram wich caused the engine to shutoff when i didn't press the gas pedal at 50mph+
