My clutch died on Thursday morning around 5am. The smell is still lingering in my car! Well, I managed to get it to the dealer where they wanted $550 for the install of my ACT 6 Puck Street/Strip clutch and another $100 for the purchase and install of a new FACTORY flywheel. I laughed. So I checked with the parts department and they said that TRD DOES NOT make a flywheel for our cars, even though I could've sworn I saw one on a website somewhere.
So I had my car towed to a local shop ($70 more bones) and they installed BOTH the ACT Clutch and Fidanza Flywheel for about $280 bucks!! I did however, have to have the Fidanza Flywheel 2 day aired from California to Georgia. I still saved dinero. The dealer can eat a schlong.
Drivability... Well, Pros... Catches quick, shifts quick, and the Clutch can handle up to 298 hp (turbo time! yeah right!)
Cons... I have to relearn how to drive my car, first gear SUCKS to catch smoothly, and it is harder to drive.
Maybe in a few weeks I'll get the hang of it. If I could re do this again, I'd get just the street clutch, but that's just because my Celica is a daily driver. One day I'll garage her. I'm up to 8-9 grand in mods, so we'll see where she goes next. Peace ya'll.
Good deal. Your car is coming together nicely man. Notice any mid-high gains with the flywheel. I hear ya about the street clutch instead of the 6 puck. Live and learn I guess. Its all good. Peace bro.
Hey, i'm in carrollton, GA, bout an hour west of atlanta, do you have the number of that place cause my clutch is near gone, and i wanna put a racing clutch/flywheel on mine too.
ETI Performance. If you tell them Rob with the Celica sent you, that would be great. I go there for a lot of stuff. They're also fixing my headunit because it turns out to be the cause of the Alternator noise I've had. They are off 575... exit 14 and the number is 770 704 0972. They do all Audio work (and Video?) and small motor work. They are also really friendly. I recommend them for a small shop.
Nothing yet really in the upper range. My Intake and exhaust sound deeper to me. It may be because I haven't had my car for a few days. I'll keep at it and let you know. Anyone got any tips for a good launch. Not really a race launch, just a lot less "drag" from the clutch? Like the feeling when you try to start in third gear? I guess I just need to find the sweet spot in my clutch again. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks ya'll. --Rob
sorry to ask...im just trying to remember folks from the meet. but you had a black celica with chrome wheels and a little bit of curb damage to the front passenger side right? ehehe i need to make a list of people and cars lol.
My scenario: Been deployed in Iraq since March, don't go back home till Febuary. I've been buying parts for my car. Toyota said my clutch was burned out, the flywheel is ok. I want a street ACT clutch, is it going to ruin my factory flywheel? Where is a cheap place to get the ACT clutch?
I got mine from suprastore.com I also got my Hotchkis TVS from them.
I don't THINK that it will interfere with your flywheel. I did the flywheel b/c there was no additional charge for labor, since the clutch and flywheel sit side-by-side, so I'm told at least.
And yes, that was labor only. I bought my clutch about a yeah ago and was just waiting for it to go out. (~$335 after shipping). The flywheel was almost $400. And install was about $285, I think.
Generic, yes, unfortunetly, that was me at the meet with the busted front end. That's the next project, after I pay off my $800 Credit card bill in 2 months. -Purchase, Paint, Install of new front -Paint and install of Roof Spoiler - " " " " Hood scoop - " " " " Gauge Pod 2-3 months.
By Christmas, I hope to have 2 TV screens and my gamecube installed. But, i don't know if it'll happen.
Eh, well, I'm still getting the hang of this thing. It's COMPLETELY different driving than with stock. Only 1st gear is the bitch. The rest is gravy. Anyone else got the 6-Puck ACT clutch and/or the Fidanza Flywheel???
Yeah, maybe so. But I'm motivated and have kept up with all but one car that I've raced. (A Mustang GT with around 300 hp was my slaughterer). I ran with a Z28 with a stock motor last year... yes... he was racing. Even the Jaguar XK-8 could keep up with me.
These V-8's can't hang if... 1) You don't know how to drive it 2) They have weight issues
I'll re-learn. Gimme some time, schlut! --Peace, Rob
I was looking at the Single plate Blitz active clutch kit. does anyone have this? just wondering looks very nice, just wondering if the clutch went out if you could just buy the clutch or have the buy the whole thing again since the clutch and flywheel is one piece. and will this clutch be ok if you had a turbo or is it not strong enough
rob i saw you the other night, i think saturday. you were at that package/liquor store on barret. we need to meet up sometime. hit up my cell if you get a chance on the weekend 7708231955 >>>Mark
