I am getting my Celica this weekend, and i've heard that you can only use high octane fuel... is this true? Thanks -Josh

The GTS uses premium fuel, and the GT can take regular 87 octane. I'm assuming you're talking about a 7th gen Celica. Earlier gens, I dunno.

The GTS requires premium grade fuel of 91 octane or better, because the 2zzge engine has an 11:5:1 compression ratio.

running regular, then switching to premium...what effects will this provide? 91 and above will always do wonders for your car. GTS should never use regular tho. When I drove my GT, I would use 87 and then at the end of the week I would fill her up with a full tank of 91.

if you have a GTS please use 91 octane. its the recommended rating and it keeps your car working. going cheap on your GTS will make it your fault for the car breaking down. GTs can use whatever rating you please. there will be no performance difference but you will feel it burning the fuel better if you use 91.

i was wondering why that fuel tank sticker said PREMIUM FUEL, and i was like on a my 4cyl? hmmm...so i did for a while, then stopped. Then i learned about our compression ratio. i guess i'll start pumping it back up again. I'll have to anyways because of n2o. thanks guys

i have a gt and fill up with prem everytime! it runs so much better and i know in the long run that the cleaner fuel will be much better for the car

I don't even have 93 or 94 around here. With the prices of 91 already raping my wallet, I dunno if I can even afford running 94, lol.

When gas ignites by compression rather than because of the spark from the spark plug, it causes knocking in the engine. Knocking can damage an engine, so it is not something you want to have happening. Lower-octane gas (like "regular" 87-octane gasoline) can handle the least amount of compression before igniting. The compression ratio of your engine determines the octane rating of the gas you must use in the car. One way to increase the horsepower of an engine of a given displacement is to increase its compression ratio. So a "high-performance engine" has a higher compression ratio and requires higher-octane fuel. The advantage of a high compression ratio is that it gives your engine a higher horsepower rating for a given engine weight -- that is what makes the engine "high performance." The disadvantage is that the gasoline for your engine costs more."

If you use 100 octane be sure it's not 100 LL (AVGAS) that is used in airplanes. If you do, you will need to replace both O2 sensors, and replace or gut the Cat/converter. The LL stands for Low Lead. It will kill the sensors and clog the converter.
Higher the compression the faster that fuel burns. It can burn so fast that it will spontaneously combust and act like a hammer hitting the top of that piston. If the burn is slowed down, it will cushion the combustion.
Octane level too low, it will make a pinging sound. Octane Level to high (100-120) combustion will not be complete at proper degree of crank angle rotation, causing slight power loss.
So the higher the octane level, the more stuff they add to make the burn retard. The more diluted the fuel is, the more it costs us. The fleecing of America?

i've always used regular... on all my cars... i can't freakin afford premium... i don't even know if i'm gonna be able to get my celica out of storage this year
