There was a semi flat bed truck in my lane, So i aimed for the ditch. I went into the ditch, Overcorrected went off the left side of the road toward a creek and hit a tree. Front left light is broken and so is my fender. F****** SEMI, F*** me i overcorrected. im just lucky i wasnt hurt.
My damage was estimated at 8000 on monday. on tuesday they said they found more damage underneath and stuff. today say there is another 5000 in damage. suspension and front axel is messed.
OK so that puts it at 13xxx which is nearly totaled. If it ends up being totaled should I buy it back from them and get the major things fixed by a body shop and do the rest my self (cheaper), Or get a different car? maybe another celica.
IF it doesnt end up being totaled do you think the car will ever be the same? they say they have to make it back to how it was from the factory(make sure it has a streight body and all that), but im not sure how acurate that will be? cry

I'm glad your ok! wave

Body shops can take bent frames and straighten then out these days. Mechanical problems would be my biggest worry! If you know a talented artest personaly, have him rebuild it!

Did you clip or take a glancing blow with him? (who's Insurance will pay?) I assume he was comming head on.

It's a windy road, on one of the streighter parts. And i didnt hit him he didnt hit me. I went into the ditch rather than get hit him head on, but then i overcorrected and went off the oposite side of the road, I could have stayed in the ditch, but then if someone came around the corner quick behind me i would have been even worse off. (im an inexperienced driver frown ) He kept going because he probably didnt even know he caused me to crash, and there was no touching between us. My insurance is paying, i have full coverage i was more than 51% at fault because i "lost controll of the vehicle(overcorrected)" and was going 40 rather than 35.

How much mileage is on your GT? Your car may not even be worth $13,000. The damage didn't seem so bad from the pictures...but that much worth in damages would seem to guarantee you're going to have problems in the future.

Celicas have unitized bodies...after a crash you can do anything you can but it will never be the same. Take the insurance payout and buy a new car.

Yea there was 67k miles on it I got it at 66k miles. Well from what you are all saying it will never handle the same.
Before they found they found it needed a new axle and some suspension(the tree pushed the front left wheel back or something)the estimate was at 8000.
It hit the tree at around 15 mph i think. I didnt have any bruising on my chest from the seat bealt or anything. and the airbags didnt deploy. Im worried about how a totaled car will look on my insurance. Im 17 cry it was mostly my parents car and now im just screwed on both ends.
I dont think the frame is crooked. What will make it not ever be the same?
they want 86$ an hour most of the $$ is for laber.

Stuff can get bent out of shape that you'd never realize...

My mom was hit by a drunk driver in her minivan. They have never found any damage to the chassis, and the suspension was repaired, but to this day we have all sorts of alignment problems and funny shakes at freeway speeds, and nothing has been able to fix it for long. It's pretty much agreed that there's some hidden damage somewhere that keeps throwing everything out of whack.

You're talking about replacing an axle and the accompanying suspension...the suspension transmits the info (and all the stress) from the road to the car, and if that gets damaged you can bet something else has been damaged. It just won't be the same.

If you plan on selling your Celica ever, this accident is going to be a big sticking point, and will lower the resale value of your car quite a bit. The amount of damage done is about equal to the value of your car, and if you (or the insurance) pour that money in you're gonna lose in the value of your car. Push for it to be totalled and get a new car, and if you ever need to sell that one you're resale value won't be in the dumps.

I would want it to be totalled, take my money & walk. You don't want a car that has had such extensive damage, it will never be the same. thumbsdown

It's really good to hear that you're okay!! eek I would do what everyone else on here has basically said, and renfield90 put it best. I know because my car was in an accident before I bought it, even though the damn dealership lied about it cause it was never reported. But it's obvious, and now I'm experiencing all kinds of odd things going on. Good luck. Are your parents mad at you, or are they just glad you're ok? My parents would be more pissed at me than worrying if i was ok... lol

Yea my parents are glad that im ok, thats the first thing they asked when I called up and said I crashed. They still want me to drive. They say Get back on the horse. Im really upset about breaking the car because i was the one that got them to get it in the first place, which was like 6 weeks ago. So ok I guess i will press for it to be totaled. They said it was so close it is really up to us.

So yea Thank you evryone for the concearn on my health and the advice about the car!!!!!

Okay, this might be long, but I went through some similar crap, so bear with me. smile

I had a 94 celica that in the end had to get totaled (stupid woman in her Subaru) Anyway, it was the world's biggest production of course, gotta love insurance companies. The technicalities came down to that if the damage was equal to or more than 75% of the value of the car it would be deemed totaled. I wouldn't even consider keeping it if they total it, because then you run into a mess of problems, even insuring it becomes nearly impossible. Some people like to buy the car back and fix it up I know, but the only hope of coming out ahead from buying it back would be to then part it out. Sad, I know cry

The damage to your axle will become a big problem. I got hit on the driver side front fender. Once damage like that is done it will never drive the same and the reliability of your car will go out the window. I wanted my car back no matter what, but even I had to admit I was doomed when we found out that the frame had broke.

I'm glad you came out okay, you're accident looked worse than mine in the pictures by far. It's still a year later for me and I still haven't been given medical release to even go back to work. I don't mean to sound like I'm whining, I'm saying this because I want you to know I understand it can be hard to get back behind the wheel. I do reccomend that you drive again as soon as you can, because the longer you wait the worse it will get. I love driving so I wasn't gonna let someone else's dumb mistake ruin it for me. Get back on the horse, get a new celica and you'll be suprised how much better you feel. Getting my 02 certainly made me smile grin

I may have found a 95 supra n\a for cheap but i dont know. I will most likely get another celica. Im not sure how much i will get from my insurance for the car. I think on autotrader it says its like 12500.

That's kind of you to ask if I'm okay smile The person hit me just right that I ended up slamming my head into the A-pillar. I guess the saying goes that if you're going to hurt your back, break it. Well, I hurt mine but didn't break it and the doctors were never sure for about 8 months how to treat it rolleyes I'm finally better but now I gotta get my body back into the shape it used to be because it's been deconditioned from being stuck at home. Let me out of this house! grin

I had to smile when you mentioned getting a Supra. I tried really hard to get one as well, but I don't exactly live anywhere that has a selection. I would have had to drive 1,000 miles to even see one, so that was out of the question since I couldn't really get around yet. I'll tell you now to check the insurance, because of all things some companies classified it as some kinda super car and wouldn't insure it! wtf Good luck on getting one though, they are gorgeous cars. I ended up getting my celica when I found it locally for wholesale, who was I to pass up a good deal?

15 mph into the tree. Imagine a whole cars weight being hit directly on the light. IT will break. Pop it did.
That sucks about your back. A girl that i know has had back surgery like 5 times, they put metal bars along her spine to streighten it (she had scholiosis) the bars broke so then they had to put in another. She hasent been able to come to school for the past 2 quarters, and has to wear a back brace. She is higly religious and that is helping her get through it. I hope that your back gets better Treat yours well. Spines are verry important smile
the person with the supra figured out that they were selling it too cheap rofl
sux for your dad munted. My plan is celica gt again, maybe a more visible color this time grin
