redline is when your tacho is reving at 7800rpm on a celica its basicly when your pistons are rotating at around thier maximum speed for that gear

The red line is not the rev-limiter.

The red line is an arbitrary maximum engine speed (or revolutions per minute (RPM)) that the manufacturer has determined that the engine should not exceed. This is marked on your tachometer in red, thus a red line.

The red line is NOT the best place to shift, because if you shift there every time you won't have an engine very long. You can exceed the redline & go to the rev limiter which is not good for the engine; however, it will maximize your powerband when shifting into the next gear. In a GTS, it will mean staying in lift all the way up. thumbsup

Yes for '00-02.5 because later produced '02's had a few things changed like 7800redline, bigger shift gates, and then in '03 they changed the redline back to 8400.
