K I'm gonna vent here...my family is REALLY getting on my nerves. My mom was just like, "What's this you're LOWERING your CAR!" I tried to explain to her that I'm getting bigger rims and that I have to in order for it not to look funny and then she proceeds to tell me my car looked much classier when I had just bought it. She says everyone in the family thinks I'm too old to be fixing up my car (I'm 24) and that it's going to look like a "pimp" car. She almost sounded like she was going to disown me for fixing up my car!

We live in a real snobby area and she says, "How are you going to step out of THAT in your Chanel dress?" I said, easy, open the door and step out. She says everyone's going to laugh at my car from all the things I'm doing to it, or have done - Carbon Fiber hood with Sparco hoodpins, blacked out tails/sidemarkers, Carbon Fiber license plate frame, and the soon-to-come rims/lowering/exhaust (she don't even know about the exhaust yet LMAO).

So let me ask everyone here - what do you think of a girl that's got a souped-up car? Would you think she's trash stepping out of a car like that or would you think, hey nice car.

haha my parents acted the same way when i started modding my car! i would be putting on my new spoiler or putting my rims on and my dad would walk out and get mad at me. he would always say that i shouldnt be acting like a boy and fixing up my car because no man would ever want to marry me. but my boyfriend thinks its cool and i help him work on his car now! but my parents finally realized that im not going to stop so they just let me do my thing. so i hope everything works out for you and its totally cool that us girls like to work on our cars!

Well I'm glad to hear another girl out there had similar problems. That's exactly what my mom just said - no decent man is going to want to marry a girl with a car like mine all fixed up. I don't wanna get married right now anyway. Sometimes I wish my family would just leave me alone. She also said fixing a car up is a boys thing...yeah, and when she was 16 she had a souped-up yellow Firebird. LOL.

Exactly! My money, not theirs! Eventually, I might show it, but right now, I just want to enjoy riding in my car. They hassled me about my system when I put that in, and a week ago my mom saw a CD case in my car of Rap. She says to me, "You don't listen to that rap stuff anymore do you? You've grown out of it right?" I'm like, I listen to whatever I'm in the mood to listen to! I'm not gonna bump Disney songs like she listens to or country. UGH.

That was too funny unstopable...and how the hell do you get a car stuck anyway LOL. I admit, I HAVE bumped into a curb...but I had a little too much to drink and had my friend take over my car LOL. I don't do that anymore - for what a DUI costs, I could turbo my car LOL.

yeah keep it up kristen! There's NOTHING wrong with a girl bein into cars etc...it's freakin hott! My gf was never really into cars much when we met...but after being around me for so long she's really into em now and wants to learn how to drive stick so she can get a sporty car herself...and it will be a really great point of interest for us to bond on later.

and about modding your car...my parents are pretty much the same way...but they're just concerned that I am putting too much money into it. They don't understand why I can't just be happy with what I have. They totally missed the boat when I tried to explain to them that it's all about an extension of your personality into your car. It's just something that they can't grasp somehow. But it's ok if my mom collects tons of old rare china and stuff that isn't even used...or if my dad spends thousands of dollars on hunting equipment and trips...so...from now on i'm not even consulting them b4 I do anything.

Just be whoever the hell you want to be in your heart. I realized just a week or two ago myself that i'm tired of being who they want me to be...I want to be what I am for myself, and no one else. Cuz when it comes down to it, you should just be able to say at the end of the day..."I'm happy with who I am, who i'm becoming, and who I will be, and I have no regrets"...and that's all that matters. You gotta do what you love.

If I told them I wanted to put my personality into my car though, they'd be like, "A mismatched one?" Just because I put Carbon Fiber on a white car. I'm 24...well, almost, April 21st and I'm sick of them thinking I'm still 13! Everyone has their own likes/dislikes and my family thinks they "need" to tell me so I don't get embarrassed. WTF, WHATEVER! What they don't realize is that when they try and mold me to be like THEM, it makes me NOT want to be like them even MORE! Just pushes me away from them and not want to keep them up with what's going on in my life.

But you summed up some of my frustrations too...I'm only 18...but he treats me like i'm 5. He doesn't think that I understand what it takes to earn things and what the cost of things are. I worked since i was 12 years old to have what I have now...I think I know that it takes work to have what you want. But I was sick of the way he talked to me about that stuff...so i just said f' it i'll do it on my own. I can't imagine if I was 24 and was still being treated like that

It is hot when a woman's ride reflects her personality! I think that most girls have impeccable taste when it comes to picking components. My sister got a 05 GT for Christmas. It has a kit and everything. She looks hot in it! (after all she is my sister and we are in Arkansas)

i've never had a problem with people saying i'm stupid for fixing up cars... i grew up around them... we've always had tons of cars... and my dad LOVES my celica... he shows it off to everyone... haha... he just hates when people paint the interior... he calls it "mickey mouse" or something... i think that's part of the reason i haven't done it yet.. haha... plus i still haven't decided whether i want to or not...

but that's really stupid that your mom says you're "too old" to fix up your car... i didn't know there was an age limit.. haha... i'll be 23 on april 19th so i'm not TOO far behind you... and no one has EVER told me i was "too old" to be fixing up cars...

modding your car is an art. An art that shows people who you are. For me only if I have the extra money, I add stuff. My parents are the same way, especially when I told them how much a turbo will cost . The only thing that bothers me about girls modding cars is when their car is cooler than mine, like the chick that owns the 600 or so horsepower Supra, because I'd get super jealous.

Okay, so this is what I have to say as a fellow girl who loves to mod her car. While I always think parents should be respected, once in a while you just want to smack them upside the head for being narrow minded I'm lucky in that my mom loves the way I mod my car, and we have jokes about who's car has better mods, mine or her 350Z. My dad on the other hand thinks I'm nuts. He's glad that I take such good care of my car and understand the value of it and all that junk, but he can't understand why I'd pay the money to work on it. He thinks it's a waste of money, but he's learned that I'm not going to change my mind and eventually he became supportive of it, I just had to let him get used to it. As trying as it may be, sometimes you just gotta be patient with them.

Now, about the guys not liking a girl who's into their car? Obviously guys here have happily stated otherwise. In my experience guys love that I'm into my car. Plus it gives them a good icebreaker when they come up to talk, because who doesn't love being asked about their car? I've made many a guy friend through cars. Guys I've known love that they can have a girl that can be the whole girlfriend scenario, but who can also just kick it in the garage together working on cars. Quality bonding time

she doesnt anymore, it got totaled, but she is currently having a new supra built by titan motorsports...she says it'll have close to 800 hp...I met her at the supra nationals at san antonio raceway. A good friend of mine knows her very well, so we just got to chill and watch titan DESTROY twin turbo vipers...

I'm someone's parent, and IMO - as long as you're not blowing an inordinate amount of your discretionary cash, investing in your Celi is a healthy and worthwhile hobby. Think of the time we spend in your car for chrissakes!!
Sounds like your parents care about their daughter - a good thing - but they're overdoing it to the point it's unfair for them to expect you to live up to THEIR ideals at age 24.

i wish my girl was into the import scene but at least shes into the muscle car scene so thats cool at least she has a 1965 mustang 289 and shes working on that while im working on the cel we help each other out

Any hetrosexual guy will think a girl that mods her car is hot. The only people who don't think so, are gay people. And the only people who want to argue with me on that are gay people. If a girl came driving along in a lowered celica, with full body kit etc - I'd be off the hook. Girls with hot cars = very very very very sexy!

it's funny... i'm the ONLY person with a modded celica where i live... and i'm a girl...

i took my celica to an open car show one time (no prizes or anything... just a bunch of car lovers showing off their cars) and i was with a bunch of my guy friends... and this group of guys walks up and starts asking one of my (guy) friends a bunch of questions about my car... and he's like "i don't know dude... it's hers" haha...they even saw me get out of the drivers side!! it's just funny how guys ASSUME that the car is the guy's...

show your parents this forum, maybe it will help them see that there are other celi lovers who do the exact thing you are doing!! keep it up!

yeah i barely see any hooked up celi over here that's driven by a gurl except mine..i think it's pretty cool. i think it's pretty cool when us gurls can keep up with guys' conversation about cars..they seem surprised about it when talking technical
