turbo will shut your complains. if you are still not satisfied then trade it in for a much faster car.

c'mon it should be obvious!! turbo! why spend 2-4k on engine swap & labor costs + extra 2-3k for turbo on the gts.

just upgrade your internals & get turbo!

psh a 2zz engine swaped in with a 1zz is not worth it ... go with the 3sgte engine if your thinking about swaping... other wise just trade the car in for a GTS

Turbo would be cheaper...go w/ that.

You should stick with the 1zz. I saw something recently that might validate this. In the new issue of Sport Compact Car magazine, in the letters section, someone writes in that they're on the list for getting a Lotus and want to know about mods. What does the magazine suggest? First - ditch the 2zz in favor of a more mod-friendly 1zz. They tell him to pick up a used one, upgrade the internals, then turbo it with a modest 6-8 psi. They said that the 2zz is better for N/A because of the high revving and high compression, but the 1zz is more friendly to mods. To close out, they told him to keep the 2zz motor packed away in his garage, so in case he sells the car, reinstall it and it'll be no miles. I thought that this was cool for us GT guys.

^^yeah, I read that and was like sweet. The cover feature made me drool all day. For those of you who don't have the mag, it's a story on the "Quickest production car ever!", a Nissan Skyline R-34 GT-R Z-Tune. AWD, 500 hp, quarter in ~10seconds. Can you say Dayum?

the 1zz is ideal for turbo, blowers, even NOS because of its low compression. with the 2zz you have a higher compression ebngine that not really compatible to turboes or blowers, sometimes even NOS. i have known a few dicks that ran a turbo from XS and didnt lower the compression nor, re-enforce the internals what they do? blew their engines. i've told them before the compression is way too high for ideal forced induction. i have a a GTS, the 2ZZ work horse for me is just fine, i have had trouble finding parts, most of my parts are one-of customs, my pistons heads, connecting arms, my crank was balanced, and the tranny re-enforced. i have even upped the compression to almost 12.5, i have custom exhaust, trial headers, polished intake manifold, stage 3 portin and polishing. im int he middle of bumpin up the displacement to a full 2.2 with a custom stroker kit. needless to say the stock ECU met the trash can, computer work is managed by a Greddy unit. its whatever works for you. how ever muc you can swing. lol im almost dont with the mods for my car, the last dyno ran it had before we pulled he engine for the stroker kit was 240hp, rivals that of a S2000. it got 228 ft/lbs. of torque. not bad for a 4 cylinder grocery getter. yes this is my daily drive. and oh yeah one more note, my friends with turboed or blown civics, they spend most of their time at the shops, engines equipped with forced induction have to be more pampered than N/A cars. but all this comes down to you its ur car man. feel free

how many extra pony's do you think the extra 12.5 comp ratio gave ya? and were those pistons custom or can I get them somewheres.. run ok on pump gas?

ps turbo the GT motor or swop it with a 3sgte, 5-8 grand isn't worth 40 extra HP and 20 extra pdft of torque. with a turbo and comparable investment you can probably get almost 100 extra HP and torque..

the pistons are custom, and yeah i run on 93 octane gas, and it hasnt cost me 5-8 grand. just that i kno ppl that deal with the custom work i needed. and yes the custom stroker kit got done today, i got my car back. we dynoed at 310 on 93 octane gas. like i said it all up to him. this is what works for me. lol smile

that was the stupidest thing I ever heard when someone told me about that article. if you swap a 1ZZ in there you're a fool. the truth is actually the complete opposite of what they claimed. Only people with no working knowledge of the celica and no experience with the 2zz along with no imagination ALWAYS say the 1ZZ is better but in fact the 2ZZ will always put out more power lbs for lbs over the 1ZZ. anyone who thinks otherwise should not take on the project.

This isn't 100% true statement

i have known a few dicks that ran a turbo from XS and didnt lower the compression nor, re-enforce the internals what they do? blew their engines. i've told them before the compression is way too high for ideal forced induction.
The XS kit was trash and THATS why they blew their engine. there's a million reasons why it was trash that I'm not gonna type out here. If you search here and the "other" celica site you'll see numerous threads why. we have successfully run turbos on stock internal GTS's as high as 10 psi and put down 278 wp and 207 wtq and that was in 1 tuning session on 91 octane. smile done properly the 2zz can handle it with no problems.

i have a a GTS, the 2ZZ work horse for me is just fine, i have had trouble finding parts, most of my parts are one-of customs, my pistons heads, connecting arms, my crank was balanced, and the tranny re-enforced. i have even upped the compression to almost 12.5, i have custom exhaust, trial headers, polished intake manifold, stage 3 portin and polishing. im int he middle of bumpin up the displacement to a full 2.2 with a custom stroker kit.
good luck on the 2.2 because there isnt enough room to pull it off. you wont get over 2.0 out of it. it's been tried by many companies but in the end ther's not enough room. so good luck in your efforts.
needless to say the stock ECU met the trash can, computer work is managed by a Greddy unit.
I highly suggest swapping the e-manage for the power fc. you'll gain a lot more tuneability and power.

its whatever works for you. how ever muc you can swing. lol im almost dont with the mods for my car, the last dyno ran it had before we pulled he engine for the stroker kit was 240hp, rivals that of a S2000. it got 228 ft/lbs. of torque.
do you happen to have a scanned copy of the dyno? and was this crank power or whp? cause with the mods you listed those numbers are VERY hard to believe. so some more info would be nice. also have you tried takin it to the track? I'd like to see where your peak power/torque is made and how your powerband looks.

OK.... So after some research a lot of people rekon that turbo is the way to go... however, I have also heard that the 2ZZ struggles with boost due to the compression so I'm looking at 6-7PSI max if i leave internals stock... I started a thread (2ZZ turbo or 3SGTE swap) but I'm impatient... lol So to reignite the flame.

1. stock plus 6-7PSI boost turbo kit
2. mod 2zz internals + 10-12PSI bost (if even possible/drivable)
3. 3S-GTE

Thanks in advance
