Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior Caliper Paint Help!

Ok, last year no more than a week or so after I got my car, I bought some Caliper paint for it 'cause I really wanted to make my first modification the easiest.

Well, I went to Walmart & got this Dupli*Color garbage:


It sure looked tempting. It was the perfect shade of yellow which matched the Celica's yellow color...
...but as soon as I opened it, it looked more like a schoolbus yellow or divided highway yellow than Celica yellow.

Either way, I applied it & it would do for now, as it's at least a SHADE of yellow. I followed the instructions EXACTLY as indicated & even gave it an extra coat or two...

...well, I drove my car through winter because I don't have a beater...
...and I just gave my car its first real spring cleaning, detailing the car inside & out myself. Upon washing the calipers, I noticed cracks in one of them, and pretty soon, when spraying it... it was chipping off in pretty big pieces!

Now I got a caliper with a lotta chipped paint coming off & I probably could scratch it all off with east! What a piece of CRAP! Caliper paint is supposed to hold & hold good... this didn't do jack sh*t.

Basically, my question:

Does anyone know where I can get some good Caliper Paint and/or what a good brand is? I now know that Dupli-Color is just plain garbage. The color is decieving on the outside of the package & the quality is also horrible.

next time grab one of those brake cleaner and steel brush. CLEAN YOUR CALIPER BEFORE YOU PAINT TO AVOID PEELING LATER ON. And don't spray! Use a paint brush...

yea, clean it off and you shouldnt have that problem. duplicolor paints are great, i think you just didnt clean it enough.

But I did clean it. I scrubbed & scrubbed like there was no tomorrow... well, I scrubbed until it was clean enough to eat off of. I used all the included materials & used a new toothbrush to clean the caliper.

Did the winterization create the cracks? 2 of them are still ok. One is chipping horribly, and the other is starting to fade through.

Did I put too many coats on, or can you never have enough coats of paint?

Both are on the rear caliper, and are showing signs of chipping. I remember spending 2 days doing the calipers... the rear one day & the front ones the following. Isn't there any other better brands out there?

buy g2 caliper paint

it has a lifetime warranty from cracking and such
its also easy to clean, just whipe and go
ive had mines for a while and it still look the same from when i painted it

is it spray? did you clearcoat it?

g2 is a brush on

Hmm... I didn't use a clear-coat...

but yea, Dupli-Color is a brush-on application.

they used a spray, which might be a little more effective (possibly more sloppy if not careful).

I might have to redo the whole thing later this month with a new brand & a new color. G2 Caliper paint is the brand you used? I'll have to google that up.

imo the duolicolor is a cheap imitation of the g2 because it came out after g2 has been out

back then it cost 50- 60 bux for the kit but now you can find it between 20 - 30 which i thinkl is a good deal

where ot get G2?? pepboys?

nah they dont sell it at those kinda stores

when are we doing your calipers serrg?

don't spray... brush paint it. if it's a spray can you an empty container and spray out the paint there then use the brush.
