its not an extra 40 horses, the vvtli engined is designed to allow the driver to go further into power band thus being able to use more power...or something like that, I drive a GT spineyes so i'm not technelogicly sure exactly how to say it

ill admit its a little vague but when it comes down to it...what does lift produce...the extra 40 HP that toyota quotes when quoting HP numbers...so i wasnt wrong...just vague as hell...and what zero said is right to...a kick in the pants thumbsup...just at 6000 RPM's

ill be honest i dont know EXACTLY how to describe it...right but in your GT when you hit 6000 RPM's do you get the power boost...nope...i mean its not like wow 40 HP gain...but like you def. feel it

VTEC and VVTL-i are similar, but even honda owners have admitted that the sound of LIFT kicking in is much more crazier than when Vtec kicks in. rice thank you Yamaha thumbsup

VVTi = Variable Valve Timing (What GT's & your truck has)
VVTi-L = ABOVE plus valve lift

The valves actually have variable amounts of opening and duration on top of variable valve timing. It makes a huge diff when your reving real high. Not useful for engines without very high redlines. The new V-Tech-i is similar.

I hope mya half ass explanation works?

Yeah guys sorta got it. There's been lots of explanations...but actually...if you look at the dynos...

LIFT gives you about 25 hp at about 6200rpm's and maintains it to redline ~8350rpm. the total 40hp difference between the GT and the GTS is also caused by the fact that GT's have a 10.0:1 compression ratio and the GTS has 11.5:1 compression ratio.

if your XRunner could rev high enough for lift to be useful...that would be absolutely sick

well i never heard atruck motor going that high...Plus you can tell from the design of the motor it is not made for high revs...It has a real slow rev and revdown it reminds me ALOT like mustang gt's how they have a slower rev.
When a light flywheel comesout...I am def going for it

yeah your truck is sick...I saw a couple road test show thingers on it...def. look really fun. and obviously it's not made for higher revs...BUT some race mustang GT's rev up to 7k. It's risky as hell...but well w/e no point there..lol. SWEET TRUCK thumbsup

Yea...The truck wasnt really designed for drag..it was made for the corners...I love the fact that it pulls over .9g not that i ever drive that way but still...:)
It gets ALOT of looks to...I like it cause its unique cause there are like NONE on the road...so I am like the only one in the pittsburgh area really. I wish it had a 48v 3.8 V8 that comes in a 355...hahahahahaha that would be and sound sooooooo sick

alright then. so how much quicker is a gts than a gt. i have a gt. i supposedly can get off the line quicker b/c the low end torque is better. if you only get the extra boost at 6200 rpm's or so, then what's the big difference. what would you gain... a couple of feet... that is, after you get to 6200 rpm's. i would think it would be about the same. i've also heard from someone on here that they had a gt that beat a gts. how many people have raced each other? and what were the outcomes?

The GTS has higher compression. Its going to have a larger powerband of HP vs a GT...I think a GTS should be ahead of a GT from the get go..plus the fast of having like extra 40hp

it also has a diffrent bore and stroke compared to the gts short stoke large bore compared to long stroke and short bore ones great for reving higher casue the pistons travel less distance which = the fact that below 4k the gts blows

Dont matter...look at it this way..My old non turbo 3000gt had 10:1 compression then the twin turbo model...wich had 8.5:1 now that car didnt make any power really till those turbos boosted in. It is no comparison on the VR4 would beat the non turbo..that lift is kinda same thing...It makes all its power to go passing by when its power does kick in

Lift is something that 2x $.60 cents bolts can f*ck up if they break.

Lift can't be described but should be experienced by all Celica drivers.
