Celica Forums General Discussion Engine and Performance 6 speed swap info

I know this is my first post in this forum. However it is not the first forum I have posted in. I am also not a newbie to cars, but I am not a mechanic either.

My question is has anyone actually done a 6 speed swap on a 2000+ GTS auto? Or if not does anyone have any relative information on how to do it?

For those of you who think this is a bad idea realize that $2500 has been put into the car already and trading it in isn't really an option. I am looking for information for my brother in-law and money isn't that big a deal as long as it is reasonable. Also, for the money is there a better swap to make these cars faster? I don't think so.

The reason that we want to swap the transmission is because I drive a cavalier z24 and absolutely blew the celica's doors off. My car only has 150HP and 155lb/ft at the crank so I think I should have lost to a much lighter car with 180HP and about 130lb/ft.

Realistically I would like to buy a wrecked celica. One that was rear-ended that has a 6 spd so I could have access to all the parts I need to do this. Thanks for any info or opinions you guys share. Also, feel free to flame away.

Oh forgot to add that I did do a search. Looked for like two days and all I found was guys flaming people for asking this question. Nobody really answered any questions. Even just a parts list would be a good start.

ok first off, you were lookin on the wrong website for this info, there are many people that have done this on new celica. first off i think that you are on the same page as me. i am now saving up for a 6spd swap myself for my GTS auto, and i know what ur feeling about being slower than cars that have a lot less HP then we do. for the money this is hands down the best performance mod you can do to an auto GTS. as for a parts list, you can also find that on the other celica site. if you could get a wrecked GTS 6psd for parts that would be golden . check ur PMs

just buy a wrecked engine and tranny

Ive been looking into doing the same thing but its just too freakin hard and too much $$$! I got this from a mag some where I forgot, hope this helps...

6speed tranny and flywheel
starter and shift linkage
clutch assembly (2000 n up), including feedline and reservoir
slavecylinder
front, rear L bracket, and upper trans brackets
gauge cluster(optional)the car would always be on park
ECU- (optional) the engine check light would always be on.
oh ya, and the pedal assembly. thats about it...

No big deal, phone a wrecker who has one & they will give you everything you need for a good deal.

You will need the computer (they are M/T, A/T specific), the tranny, shifter, linkage, master cylinder hydraulic assembly, pedals. I'm going from memory, so ... You don't need a starter, the brackets are probably the same.

The scrap yard should be able to do the deal for about $2,000. It should take you a couple of days to do without all the air tools & lifts. You will need an engine hoiste, because it will be way easier to do the tranny if you unbolt the motor & snug it up to the side of the engine bay. You have to drop the drive shafts. What else ... almost all the wiring has to come off the motor because its fed from the driver's side, right over top of the tranny from the ECU.

Good luck, it will be worth it. BTW, you should put a new TRD clutch in it while you have it apart.
